Watch New Radicals Perform ‘You Get What You Give’ at Joe Biden’s Inauguration Parade

As announced, the New Radicals reunited after 22 years to perform their smash hit ‘You Get What You Give’ as part of Joe Biden’s inaugural ‘Parade Across America’ virtual event. Watch the band’s remote, one-time performance below.

Notably, the group decided to cut the song’s original outro, which included lines like “Health insurance, rip off lying/ FDA, big bankers buying” and “Fashion shoots with Beck and Hanson/ Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson/ You’re all fakes, run to your mansions/ Come around, we’ll kick your asses.” Explaining their decision, frontman Gregg Alexander told Rolling Stone: “For the inauguration and only four minutes to play, I couldn’t get to the rap part anyway.”

Joe Biden has talked about his personal connection to the song, which Beau Biden would listen to with his family in his final days. “During breakfast, Beau would often make me listen to what I thought was his theme song, ‘You Get What You Give’ by the New Radicals,” Biden wrote in his memoir Promise, Me Dad. “Even though Beau never stopped fighting and his will to live was stronger than most – I think he knew that this day might come. The words to the song are: This whole damn world can fall apart. You’ll be ok, follow your heart.”

Biden’s swearing-in ceremony included Lady Gaga singing the National Anthem as well as appearances from Jennifer Lopez and Garth Brooks. A primetime special called Celebrating America featured appearances from Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, Foo Fighters, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Katy Perry, and others.
