The Flaming Lips Perform World’s First ‘Space Bubble’ Concert: Watch

Following a number of trial runs, The Flaming Lips have officially held the first “space bubble” concert in the group’s hometown of Oklahoma City on Friday night (January 22), Brooklyn Vegan reports. The show, which was postponed from December due to coronavirus concerns, had fans split up in 100 inflatable balls, each of which could hold three people. The band members were also encased in the space bubbles long used by frontman Wayne Coyne as a staple of their live performances. At one point in the night, Coyne held up a a sign made up of massive balloons that read “FUCK YOU COVID-19.”

The show’s setlist consisted of 13 tracks, including fan favourites such as ‘Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1’, ‘She Don’t Use Jelly’, ‘Race for the Prize’, and ‘Do You Realize??’. The band also gave the American Head single ‘Flowers of Neptune 6’ its live debut and performed a cover of the Daniel Johnston classic ‘True Love Will Find You in the End’. Check out clips and photos from the gig below, as well as the full setlist.

The Flaming Lips previously performed ‘Race for the Prize’ on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to a live audience housed inside giant bubbles. They then teased bringing that concept to the stage in October.
