Post Malone, J Balvin, and Katy Perry are among the artists who will be contributing to a special anniversary album for the Pokémon franchise. The 14-track LP is called Pokémon 25: The Album and is set for release this autumn via Capitol, Balvin confirmed in an interview with Rolling Stone.
“We’re gonna come up with a crazy song. It’s going to catch everybody’s ear,” Balvin told the publication. “It’s easy to make a Pokémon song if you just want that fan base, but we’re not close-minded. We want everybody to vibe with Pokémon.”
Balvin, Perry and Malone are three of 11 Universal Music Group (UMG) artists who will be featured on the album, which celebrates a quarter-century since Pokémon was launched. Just days ago, Malone shared a rendition of Hootie & The Blowfish’s ‘Only Wanna Be With You’ as part of his contribution to the album. According to Rolling Stone, it’s the only cover that will appear on Pokémon 25: The Album. Malone also performed the track at last night’s virtual Pokémon anniversary concert, where he was transformed into a digital avatar and was surrounded by Pokémon spectators.
Perry was announced as the ambassador for the P25 Music campaign in January. “It is an honour to be chosen to help celebrate a franchise that has given me so much joy in the last 25 years, and to be able to watch it evolve in the ways it’s provided that kind of electric joy for the kids in my life and around the world,” she said at the time.
Now they always say congratulations 🏆
