Mitski Returns With New Song ‘The Baddy Man’

Mitski has released a new song from her upcoming soundtrack to Chris Miskiewicz and Vincent Kings’ graphic novel This Is Where We Fall. The country-flavored track is called ‘The Baddy Man’ and you can hear it below.

This Is Where We Fall, which is out May 5 via Z2 Comics, promises to “delve into complex questions on science, faith, mankind’s need to believe in something bigger than itself, while also questioning what defines the human spirit.” A representative for Z2 told Pitchfork that there are currently no plans to release the soundtrack on streaming services, but it is available for pre-order on vinyl and cassette alongside the comic.

“It was exciting to make a soundtrack for a comic book,” Mitski said in a statement. “It allowed me to work outside of my usual songwriting form and try to approach it like a score, but without any of the cues that come with working alongside a moving image, which ended up being both freeing and challenging. I hope the end result helps to immerse you in the story!”

Mitski released her most recent album, Be the Cowboy, in 2018, following 2016’s Puberty 2. ‘The Baddy Man’ is Mitski’s first solo offering since ‘Cop Car’, her contribution to the soundtrack for the 2020 horror film The Turning. Last year, she appeared on Allie X’s track ‘Susie Save Your Love’.
