The National’s Matt Berninger has released the deluxe edition of his 2020 solo debut Serpentine Prison. The expanded version includes six new tracks, four of which are covers: the Velvet Underground’s ‘European Son’, Bettye Swan’s ‘Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye’, Morphine’s ‘In Spite of Me’ and Eddie Floyd’s ‘Big Bird’. The other two, the previously released ‘Let It Be‘ and ‘The End’, are Berninger originals. Take a listen below.

Berninger originally approached producer Booker T. Jones with the intention of working on a covers album together before the project became a collection of originals. According to a press release, the Serpentine Prison sessions yielded a total of 12 originals and seven covers.
