Last night (March 31), Lorde joined alt-country singer-songwriter Marlon Williams onstage for a surprise duet of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Tougher Than The Rest’. The pair sang the 1987 Tunnel of Love single at the Hollywood Avondale Theatre in Auckland, New Zealand, as Coup De Main originally reported. Watch the performance below.
Lorde and Williams previously joined forces on a cover performance of Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘The Sound Of Silence’ back in 2019. In 2014, Springsteen himself performed a cover of Lorde’s breakout hit ‘Royals’ at a concert in her native New Zealand. Lorde returned the favor when she delivered a rendition of Springsteen’s ‘I’m on Fire’ during her 2017 Melodrama World Tour.
Lorde has been working on the follow-up to Melodrama, revealing last December that the title of her third album was inspired by her 2019 trip to Antarctica. The previous month, she announced a 100-page photo book documenting her trip to the continent.
