Angel Olsen Unveils New Track ‘Alive and Dying (Waving, Smiling)’

Angel Olsen has shared ‘Alive and Dying (Waving, Smiling)’, a new track from her upcoming box set Song of the Lark and Other Far Memories. The orchestral version of the Whole New Mess song features an 11-piece orchestra arranged by Jherek Bischoff. Listen to it below.

“This song is all about chapters closing, and learning to let go of things I can’t understand,” Olsen said of ‘Alive and Dying (Waving, Smiling)’ in a statement. “It’s very me – I will always nosedive into love, and suffering can definitely come with that. When I hear this version the strings really bring the song to its necessary bittersweet boiling point.”

Song of the Lark and Other Far Memories is set for release on May 7 via Jagjaguwar. It includes the singer-songwriter’s last two records, All Mirrors and Whole New Mess, plus a bonus LP featuring alternate takes, B-sides, remixes, reworkings, and more. Previously, Olsen shared ‘It’s Every Season (Whole New Mess)’.
