The Mountain Goats Release New Song ‘The Slow Parts on Death Metal Albums’

The Mountain Goats have shared ‘The Slow Parts on Death Metal Albums’, the latest single from their upcoming album Dark In Here. The track features backing vocals from Susan Marshall and Reba Russell, who have previously worked with the likes of Al Green, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and U2. Check it out below.

Bassist Peter Hughes explained in a press release: “John Darnielle concedes that ‘The Slow Parts on Death Metal Albums’ is an autobiographical one. While the lines, “In a new universe / trying to find the mask that fits me” would take on a newly literal connotation … the song is about going to metal shows at Fender’s Ballroom in Long Beach, California, in the late ’80s, and more broadly, about seeking a sense of identity and community in strange and occasionally forbidding places.”

Dark In Here is out on June 25. Previously, the Mountain Goats shared the single ‘Mobile’.
