Katy Perry Shares Video for New ‘Pokémon’ Single ‘Electric’

Katy Perry has released a new song called ‘Electric’. The Pikachu-inspired track is the first original song to be released from Pokémon 25: The Album, a star-studded compilation celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. It’s accompanied by a Carlos Lopez Estrada-directed clip, which was shot in Hawaii and features Perry and Pikachu reflecting on how they have evolved over the years. Watch it below.

“When I visited the Pokémon Café while touring Japan, I got so nostalgic,” Perry said in a press release. “It took me back to my junior high years. So when I got the call to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was elated. The song’s themes – resilience, igniting your inner light – have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters. Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness.”

Previously as part of the P25 Music campaign, Post Malone released a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s song ‘Only Wanna Be With You’. Pokémon 25: The Album is set to come out this fall via Capitol Records.
