Lorde is back. The New Zealand pop star’s new song, ‘Solar Power’, was co-produced by Jack Antonoff and features backup vocals from Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo. Drummer Matt Chamberlain, who has recently performed on Bob Dylan’s Rough and Rowdy Ways, also contributes to the new single. Watch the song’s music video, directed by Joel Kefali and Lorde, below.
‘Solar Power’ is Lorde’s first piece of new music since the release of her 2017 album Melodrama. In a newsletter, the singer confirmed her third album is also called Solar Power. “The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalising the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” she wrote. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learnt to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”
She added: “I want this album to be your summer companion, the one you pump on the drive to the beach. The one that lingers on your skin like a tan as the months get cooler again.”
