Adia Victoria Shares Video for New Single ‘You Was Born To Die’

Adia Victoria has shared a new single, ‘You Was Born to Die’, taken from her upcoming album A Southern Gothic. The track, her rendition of Ernest B McTell’s ‘You Was Born To Die’, arrives with an accompanying video featuring guest appearances by Jason Isbell, Margo Price, and Kyshona Armstrong. Check it out below.

“Last year the lessons I have learned on my walk in the blues – the business of love, lies, loss and spectacular death – surrounded my every waking though like armor,” Victoria explained in a press release. “In a society that attempts so suppress death into the unspoken, the blues has allowed me to death in dance’s face and sing her entire name.”

She added: “‘You Was Born To Die’ is a celebration of the impermanence of any imprint we hope in vain to leave on this world. Like any blues worth the name, it is an invitation to stand apart and stare askew back on a world become ridiculous.”

A Southern Gothic, the follow-up to the singer-songwriter’s 2019 album Silences, arrives September 17 via Canvasback/Parlophone Records. The LP was led by the single ‘Magnolia Blues’.
