The nominations for the 96th Academy Awards have been announced. Two songs from the Barbie soundtrack – Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For?’ and ‘I’m Just Ken’, written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt and performed by Ryan Gosling – are up for Best Original Song, along with Flamin’ Hot’s ‘The Fire Inside’ (written by Diane Warren and performed by Becky G), American Symphony’s ‘It Never Went Away’ (written by Jon Batiste and Semisonic’s Dan Wilson and performed by Batiste), and Killers of the Flower Moon’s ‘Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)’ (written by Scott George and performed by the Osage Tribal Singers).
In 2022, Billie Eilish and Finneas won Best Original Song for the James Bond song ‘No Time to Die’, which they also performed at the ceremony.
In the Best Original Score category, this year’s nominees include Ludwig Göransson for Oppenheimer, Jerskin Fendrix for Poor Things, Laura Karpman for American Fiction, John Williams for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and Robbie Robertson for Killers of the Flower Moon.
The 2024 Academy Awards will be held on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
