A new Star Wars game is set to be announced on April 19th at this year’s Star Wars Celebration event.
The game is expected to be a turn-based strategy game and will be developed by Bit Reactor and Respawn Entertainment in collaboration with Lucasfilm and Electronic Arts.
The game will be unveiled via a live panel with the lead development team as part of the official Star Wars Celebration 2025 schedule.
The development team at Bit Reactor is made up of some of the gaming industry’s most experienced heads who have worked on some of the biggest game franchises in the world, such as XCOM, Civilization, Gears of War, and Elder Scrolls.
Respawn Entertainment are also extremely well-versed in the genre having developed the 2019 hit Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order as well as Apex Legends and Titanfall.
While very little is known about the new star wars game, fans have gone wild on social media with the announcement attempting to predict what the mysterious game may bring.
Rumours and Fan Theories
Fans have expressed a number of fears and hopes for the upcoming star wars game, with many questioning why the developers are focusing on a new turn-based strategy game instead of a new FPS like to long-awaited Star Wars Battlefront 3 or Titanfall 3.
Many fans are however hopeful that the game could breathe new life into the genre that has fallen from popularity in recent years with most new turn-based strategy games being reserved for small arcade-y mobile games.
One commenter on Reddit said: “RTS game in 2025? We are back”, while another supported the developers decision to prioritise a strategy game over a mass-market appeal FPS saying: “Honestly hopefully a smart one. FPSes are a pretty well mined genre. There’s basically something for everyone and very little room to do anything new. So they’d be effectively slapping a Star Wars skin on whatever style they go for, and they’d have to commit to making it a better version or just being a failed ripoff.
“The RTS genre is basically wide open with Starcraft being largely dormant and no other games really taking up much oxygen there.”
Fans were also divided on what era they want the game set in, with one commenter controversially saying “I hope it has nothing to do with any of the movies”, prompting push back from fans who said “I dunno man, a modern Clone Wars RTS would go so hard”, while others supported the claim suggesting a game inspired by the wider Star Wars canon, such as books and continuing on from other Star Wars video games.
