A new Brazilian crime drama is drawing in viewers from all around the world. Rivers of Fate, which premiered on Netflix in late August, is currently the second most-watched non-English show on the platform, with 5.2 million views this week alone.
Fans are praising it as intriguing and impactful, while noting that it’s incredibly brutal at times. At only four episodes, it manages to tell a compelling story. Should we expect more?
Rivers of Fate Season 2 Release Date
At the time of writing, there seem to be no plans for a potential Rivers of Fate season 2. It’s listed as a limited series on Netflix, and the streaming service hasn’t made any announcements about a sequel.
That said, you never know. If the show proves popular enough, it could always prompt a surprise renewal. For now, however, it looks like the four episodes might be all we get. Additional ones, if ordered, could arrive in a couple of years.

What Could Happen in Rivers of Fate Season 2?
Rivers of Fate follows three people thrust together by unexpected circumstances.
At the centre of the action, we have Janalice, a teenager whose life is beset by what she believes to be a supernatural curse. Her torment escalates when she’s kidnapped by a sex trafficking ring.
Preá, meanwhile, is the conflicted leader of a criminal gang of river pirates. He wrestles with his destiny and would love to break free from his life of crime. Finally, Mariangel pursues a relentless quest for vengeance after the loss of her family.
As their stories intersect, the narrative weaves a riveting tale involving corruption and survival. Tension slowly mounts to the point where you will be glued to the screen, unable to look away. Then, it all culminates in an unforgiving showdown.
By the end of the bittersweet finale, you’re left feeling equal parts relieved and frustrated. While your favorite characters might make it out alive, you know that the broader system will continue to inflict horror. The show is gripping, but also revelatory.
It’s why we doubt that Rivers of Fate season 2 will become reality. The main story is resolved by the time the end credits roll. Still, a sequel might follow some of the characters as they attempt to take down the bad guys for good. If it picks up a few years later, even better.
