Lizzo Releases Comeback Single ‘Love in Real Life’

Lizzo is back with ‘Love in Real Life’, her first single in two years. “Time to put some gas in 2025,” she wrote in a post teasing the song hours before its release. The singer co-wrote the song with her ‘About Damn Time’ collaborators Eric Frederic, Theron Thomas, and Blake Satkin. On streaming services, it’s accompanied by a short spoken word intro track called ‘Everything Was So Much Simpler’. On February 13, Lizzo took to Instagram to bid farewell to her 2022 album, Special. “It’s the end of a very Special era. This album was my strut back into society after a hard 2020 & 2021. I wanted to help people turn up the music, turn down the lights and get a feeling they’ll be alright,” she wrote. “I wanted to remind people of how they may be broken but still perfect in their own way. 12 songs, 68 shows, 14 countries, 3 continents and nearly a million voices later we saw our specialness. We got through it together. I’m proud of the accolades, the Grammys the Emmys the Platinum plaque… but I’m most proud of the Legacy I’m leaving this world— lyrics that uplift you, music w real instruments, a reminder to dance and that it’s okay to cry… and high vibrations! I thank God every day that this is my job, and I don’t take it lightly.”

The next day, Lizzo went on Twitch to start teasing her new era. “I want to introduce to you guys, the newest piece of content from the new era. I’ve been working on new music for the last two years. I took my time and I did it right. The new era has begun today, right now, with you, my chat.” In the trailer, the clip opened with Lizzo sobbing while looking at the camera over the eerie sound of a flute playing.”

It’s been almost a year since Lizzo expressed her intention to step away from the public eye. Her hiatus from music was filled with legal troubles after the singer was accused by multiple former employees of harassment in the workplace. In her first interview since the lawsuits last December, she said the “experience taught me healthy boundaries… there’s a difference between having boundaries and professional boundaries.”
