What to expect from Siege X: Launch date and latest news

Ubisoft is set to reveal Siege X fully on May 18, bringing the new 6v6 game mode to life.

Touted as the next generation of the popular strategic shooter Rainbow Six Siege, the update will bring with it a new 6v6 game mode called Dual Front, featuring larger maps and exciting new game mechanics.

The game will also see its graphics overhauled in a bid to attract new players.

Developers Ubisoft have reassured the existing playerbase that the core 5v5 gamemode Rainbow Six is known for will remain, but the new Siege X version is bound to excite both new and old players.

The name and content are in celebration of the shooter’s 10th anniversary, having come out in December of 2015.

In its ten years on the scene Rainbow Six Siege has maintained its position as one of the most popular shooters out there, with regular major updates and increasingly popular competitive scenes, it has gone from strength to strength growing a massive following of avid fans.

What is included in Siege X?

Several new features have already been announced in relation to the new mode Dual Front. The most important: Operator rotation. Players will be able to choose from a selection of 35 operators that rotate twice per season to tackle the enemy team based on the evolving tactical situation.

Diverging from the traditional gameplay – these operators will be available to both teams, meaning attackers can play alongside defenders and vice versa.

During the match two objectives are active at the same time, one in each team’s area. To progress forward to victory each team must defend their objective while trying to plant a sabotage kit in the opposition’s objective – similarly to how bombs and defusers work in the traditional gamemode.

Dual Front also allows respawns, creating more opportunities for mid-match tactical adjustments or objective based strategies and gadget combinations.

This is particularly important as the new mode also features expansive new maps with all-new attack lines and peaking angles for players to explore.

The old 5v5 mode will also see a range of improvements from modernised maps to improved audio and visuals, giving the mode a fresh coat of paint.

New players will also be eased into the game with a longer tutorial and skill training programme to help them get prepped for competitive matches.
