Panda Bear and Sonic Boom Release New ‘Reset Mariachi’ EP

Two years ago, Panda Bear and Sonic Boom teamed up for a collaborative album called Reset. Last year, they followed it with Reset In Dub, a remix EP they made with Adrian Sherwood. Now, the duo have shared the six-track Reset Mariachi EP, which marks “the final chapter in the Reset story.” Listen to it below.

Panda Bear and Sonic Boom worked with the Mexico City group Mariachi 2000 de Cutberto Pérez on the new EP, which features Spanish-language versions of ‘Peligro (Danger)’ and ‘Viviendo en las sequelas (Livin’ in the After)’ – one sung by Panda Bear and Sonic Boom and one sung by the vocalists of Mariachi 2000 de Cutberto Pérez.

In a statement about the new EP, Sonic Boom’s Pete Kember shared:

We had the idea to record with a Mexican mariachi party band going back to “Tropic of Cancer” from the Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper LP, but it was always just a pipe dream & circumstances never came together.

Then last year, knowing we were shortly to head to Mexico for a show, we asked our Mexican friend & sound tech Oswaldo Terrones if he had contacts with any mariachi in Mexico. He did … and also with a studio specializing in mariachi recording. With that burning a hole in our imaginations we pulled together a six person team of three Mexican and three Spanish friends, here in Portugal and in Mexico City, and painstakingly translated two Reset songs, making sure to be true to the poetry, the Mexican Spanish, the rhymes and of course the rhythmic flow.

In November ’23 we recorded them at Topetitud Studio in Coyoacan, Mexico City with additional arranging by Santiago & Patsi Mijare, with the mariachi playing the instruments, us playing the percussion, and all taking turns to sing. Our Spanish didn’t enable us to understand their animated chatting, but we were told afterwards that the mariachi loved the songs and were bemused by their simplicity and the apparent sleight of hand in their construction. It was a great day, and a joy to watch the mariachi enjoying the songs and taking them back home.

Horse Jumper of Love Share Video for New Single ‘Word’

0

Ahead of the release of their new LP Disaster Trick on Friday (August 17), Horse Jumper of Love have shared one more single, ‘Word’. Following previous cuts ‘Wink’‘Snow Angel’, and ‘Today’s Iconoclast’, the track is accompanied by a music video from director Ben Turok. Check it out below.

Discussing ‘Word’, frontman Dimitri Giannopoulos said in a statement:

This song is about the distortion of reality, specifically how your sense of time and reality becomes distorted through someone else’s sense of it… You try to fit into someone else’s idea of their future, because of love or indecision or insecurity. Maybe that someone is more confident than you and has power over you? An issue I’ve struggled with is feeling unworthy of creating my own future, so I’ve relied on other people for guidance, whether it was family, friends, or lovers. This theme is boiled down in this song as a fight between two romantically involved people and how love and the anxiety associated with it is so powerful it can make you feel separate from the rest of the world. This distortion reveals itself in the lyric “Milking of the ax handle“ a literal image of distorted reality. I got the idea from the movie “Häxan” when they show a drawing of a witch milking an ax instead of a cow.

Girls’ Christopher Owens Announces New Album, Shares New Single ‘No Good’

Former Girls frontman Christopher Owens has announced his first new album in seven years. I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair will be out October 18 on True Panther Records. It includes the recently unveiled single ‘I Think About Heaven’, and the album’s opening track, ‘No Good’, is out today. Check it out below, along with an acoustic performance video directed by Rebekah Sherman-Myntti, and scroll down for the album cover and tracklist.

Since releasing Vante with his band Curls in 2017, Owens endured a motorcycle accident that left him immobilized, experienced periods of homelessness, and struggled with the death of former Girls bandmate Chet “JR” White. In a press release, he described I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair as “a record about a journey back to the centre of myself.”

Owens co-produced the album in various San Francisco studios with longtime collaborator Doug Boehm. The song ‘This Is My Guitar’ features production from Ariel Rechtshaid and Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Jacob Portrait.

Introducing the themes behind the LP, Owens said: “In the second half of the Bible, Jesus asks ‘What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?’ Lately I’ve found it interesting to ask it in a different way. ‘What shall it profit a man, if he lose his whole world, and gain back his soul?’ And I think the answer would have to be something like — The Kingdom of Heaven.”

black midi Are “Indefinitely Over,” Bassist and Frontman Confirm

0

black midi have seemingly broken up, according to an Instagram comment from frontman Geordie Greep. Greep revealed the news during an Instagram Live on Saturday (August 10), where he responded to fans’ questions about new music by typing “no more black midi” and “it’s over” into the chat. He went on to write, “black midi was an interesting band that’s now indefinitely over.”

In a since-deleted tweet the following day, bassist Cameron Picton appeared to confirm the news, writing: “We’d agreed to not say anything about ‘breaking up’ so I was as blindsided as everyone else last night but maybe in a different way. I guess sometimes all you can say is lol. Anyway! Starting sessions for my own record soon, looking forward — should be good, hopefully great!”

black midi’s last album was 2022’s Hellfire.

7 Helpful tips for playing slot machines

Slot machines have been a staple in casinos worldwide for decades, enticing players with their bright lights, captivating sounds, and the promise of instant fortune. While playing slot machines is largely a game of chance, there are several strategies and tips you can follow to maximize your enjoyment and potentially increase your chances of winning.

1. Understand the basics

Before you start playing, it’s essential to understand how slot machines work. Slots are powered by Random Number Generators (RNGs), ensuring that each spin is independent and random. This means there’s no way to predict when a machine will pay out.

Familiarize yourself with the game’s paylines, symbols, and bonus features by reading the paytable and game rules. Knowing what to expect can help you make more informed decisions while playing.

Experienced players use demo modes to study in detail the possibilities and features of a new machine without risking their own money. Many famous developers offer fans of slot machines to play slots for free, pick up bonuses and free spins without downloading the application to a personal phone or registering on the casino website.

2. Set a budget and stick to it

One of the most crucial tips for playing slot machines is to set a budget before you start and stick to it.

Determine how much money you are willing to spend and never exceed that amount. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of the game, but responsible gambling means knowing when to walk away. Divide your budget into smaller sessions and avoid chasing losses to keep your experience enjoyable and stress-free.

Professionals never gamble with money taken on credit.

3. Choose the right slot machine

Not all slot machines are created equal. Some offer higher payouts, better odds, or more engaging features. When selecting a slot machine, consider factors such as Return to Player (RTP) percentages, volatility, and jackpot sizes. Machines with higher RTPs (typically 95% or higher) offer better long-term payout potential. The Gold Cash Free Spins slot is an excellent choice for players seeking a high RTP game, as it boasts an impressive return rate that maximizes your chances of winning. This exciting slot combines the thrill of free spins with the potential for substantial cash prizes.

Choose a machine that matches your playing style – low volatility for frequent, smaller wins or high volatility for larger, less frequent payouts. Choose the perfect slot for the game will help demo mode. Users of entertainment sites have the opportunity to play free online slots without registration, to study the mechanics and features of the slot machine. The gold cash free spins demo is available on the Slot Day website, allowing you to explore its features and gameplay before playing for real money.

4. Take advantage of bonuses and promotions

Casinos often offer bonuses and promotions to attract players. These can include free spins, match bonuses, or loyalty rewards. Take advantage of these offers to extend your playtime and increase your chances of winning without spending additional money.

Always read the terms and conditions associated with these promotions to ensure you understand the wagering requirements and any restrictions.

5. Play maximum bets on progressive jackpots

If you’re playing a slot machine with a progressive jackpot, it’s typically best to bet the maximum amount. Progressive jackpots are often only triggered when the maximum bet is placed. While this strategy can be more expensive, it gives you a chance to win life-changing sums of money.

Ensure that this fits within your budget and does not encourage reckless spending.

6. Know when to stop

One of the hardest but most important tips is knowing when to stop playing. Set win and loss limits to help manage your playtime effectively. If you hit a significant win, consider cashing out and spend the funds to fulfill a dream or invest effectively. If you reach your loss limit, walk away and avoid the temptation to continue playing in the hopes of recovering your losses. Practicing self-discipline ensures you can enjoy playing slot machines without financial stress.

7. Enjoy the game

Finally, remember that slot machines are meant to be a fun and entertaining way to spend your time. While winning is undoubtedly exciting, it’s essential to enjoy the process. Appreciate the graphics, themes, and bonus features that make each game unique. Approach slot machines with a mindset of having fun, and any winnings you achieve will be an added bonus.

Professional players don’t turn slots into their only source of income, they see slots as a way to have fun.

Conclusion

Playing slot machines can be an enjoyable pastime if approached with the right mindset and strategies. By understanding how slots work, setting a budget, choosing the right machines, taking advantage of bonuses, playing responsibly, and knowing when to stop, you can enhance your gaming experience.

At the first sign of an unhealthy gambling addiction, you should seek help from a professional.

Always prioritize fun and entertainment over the pursuit of winnings, and you’ll find slot machines to be a rewarding and enjoyable activity.

DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ Releases New Album ‘Hex’

DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ has returned with a new album called Hex. Spanning 18 tracks, the LP includes the previously released tracks ‘Come Find Out’, ‘Deep Down’, and ‘In Silence’. It follows last year’s Destiny, which got a remix album as well as a drumless edition. Stream Hex below.

In a statement on Bandcamp, the UK electronic artist wrote (via Stereogum):

Helllooooo!! Sorry it’s been a while since the last album but I’ve been working constantly to get this thing finished for August, a little earlier than I expected thanks to some “extremely hardcore grindset mode” but we finally made it here! The few loose tracks that didn’t quite work on this album will probably find a home on the next album, I also last minute decided to go for a vinyl since the tracks fit really, really nicely on 6 sides it seemed like a shame not to! I was finishing the mixing and mastering right up until earlier this afternoon so it’ll be on Apple, Spotify, Tidal, etc as soon as they get around to approving it! As it’s released a little earlier today, I’ll be doing a listening party around the release time on Bandcamp… I’ll also hopefully be doing a Youtube premiere tomorrow when I upload the full album there. So! Please enjoy and come down to the Bandcamp listening party in a couple of hours.. hope your all prepared for an unforgettable [sic] luncheon!

DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ recently remixed Hotline TNT’s ‘I Thought You’d Changed’.

Celine Dion Denounces Trump Rally’s Use of ‘My Heart Will Go On’: “Really, That Song?”

Celine Dion has denounced Donald Trump and J.D. Vance for using her song ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a rally in Montana on Friday night.

The singer’s management team shared a statement on behalf of the artist and her record label for the use of the Titanic hit. “Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana,” it reads.

“In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use,” the statement continued. “…And really, THAT song?”

Last month, Dion delivered her first performance in over four years at the Olympics Opening Ceremony, where she sang Edith Piaf’s ‘L’Hymne à l’amour’.
