Los Bitchos Drop New Songs ‘Kiki, You Complete Me’ and ‘1K’

Los Bitchos have shared two new tracks, ‘Kiki, You Complete Me’ and ‘1K’, which will appear on their upcoming record Talkie Talkie – out August 30 via City Slang. Take a listen below.

Discussing ‘Kiki, You Complete Me’, the band said in a press release:

This track feels like the opening sequence of a comic book series. The tom sounds we went for are outrageous, like the ‘pows’ and ‘thwacks’ of a comic strip punctuating the music… think Batman meets Bitchos! Towards the end of the song we extended this chuggy, tension building section and brought out a guitar solo before ending on the comic/video game theme vibe refrain.

We’ve leaned into the 16 bit video game aesthetic for the video. Serra has always dreamed of writing music for video games.. We’ve started playing this song live at festivals this year and it’s definitely one of the songs we’re all most enjoying playing.

Of ‘1K’, they added: “This is a really shimmery, summer tune. There’s even a can of drink being opened at some point, you can feel the heat and care free vibes. I imagine a gathering with friends, maybe a BBQ, some drinks, people popping by. The drums are quite stripped back for this track, more percussion led.”

Cruickshank submitted demos to Saddest Factory Records after touring with Lucy Dacus. “Being signed by Phoebe Bridgers is immediately going to open me up to a wider audience,” Cruickshank said in a press release. “I take it seriously, just to be a visible trans woman role model in music, because there aren’t that many, and there should be more.”

Horse Jumper of Love Share Video for New Song ‘Today’s Iconoclast’

Horse Jumper of Love have offered another preview of their upcoming album Disaster Trick, which lands August 16 on Run for Cover. Following the previously released tracks ‘Wink’ and ‘Snow Angel’, the track is accompanied by a music video from director Rhys Scarabosio. Check it out below.

“I was watching a Pasolini film and read someone describe him as an iconoclast,” frontman Dimitri Giannopoulos explained in a statement about the new song. “I became obsessed with that word and idea. In order to make something good, you have to destroy a belief in some way. You can’t stay static, you have to accept change and be able to adjust. I was thinking everyone should try to be as iconoclastic as they can because a lot of people end up being unhappy or unsatisfied. I think we all could be happier if we made an effort to destroy what we believe to be true about our own desires.”

The Linda Lindas Announce New Album ‘No Obligation’, Share Video for New Single

The Linda Lindas have announced their sophomore LP, No Obligation, which comes out October 11 via Epitaph. The follow-up to the 2022’s Growing Up is led by the single ‘All in My Head’, which arrives with a music video directed by James Wyatt. Check it out below and scroll down for the album cover and tracklist.

“It has the most indie vibes we’ve leaned into so far because it was written on an acoustic guitar,” the band’s Lucia de la Garza said in a statement. “Recording it was really fun, full of lots of dancing in the studio. I wrote ‘All In My Head,’ from the perspective of a book character, which kinda brought us out of our comfort zone.” The song was inspired by Ottessa Moshfegh’s My Year of Rest and Relaxation, which she read on tour last summer. “It felt like a break from reality, which we don’t usually find ourselves writing about,” de la Garza added.

Lunar Vacation Release New Single ‘Sick’

Lunar Vacation have unveiled a new single, ‘Sick’, from their forthcoming album Everything Matters, Everything’s Fire. It follows lead offering ‘Set the Stage’, and you can check it out below.

“This song came about after accidentally going to an open mic stand-up comedy show, where, unbeknownst to us, we were the only audience members,” guitarist and vocalist Gep Repasky said of ‘Sick’ in a statement. “No one was funny, and most jokes were made at our expense. I picked this song up again while we were on tour and finished writing it as we drove into Manhattan, which inspired the lyrics about crumbling infrastructure.”

Lunar Vacation’s new LP, which follows 2021’s Inside Every Fig Is a Dead Wasp, lands September 13 on Keeled Scales.

Chat Pile Announce New Album ‘Cool World’, Share New Single ‘I Am Dog Now’

Oklahoma City noise rock quartet Chat Pile have announced a new album, Cool World. The follow-up to their 2022 breakout God’s Country will arrive on October 11 via The Flenser. The first single, ‘I Am Dog Now’, is out today with a video directed by Will Mecca. Check it out below and scroll down for the album cover and tracklist.

Uniform’s Ben Greenberg mixed the 10-track LP, marking the first time the band worked with an outside mixer. “Cool World covers similar themes to our last album, except now exploded from a micro to macro scale, with thoughts specifically about disasters abroad, at home, and how they affect one another,” vocalist Raygun Busch said in a statement. “If I had to describe the album in one sentence, it’s hard not to borrow from Voltaire, so I won’t resist – Cool World is about the price at which we eat sugar in America.”

“While we wanted our follow-up to God’s Country to still capture the immediate, uncompromising essence of Chat Pile, we also knew that with Cool World, we’d want to stretch the definition of our ‘sound’ to reflect our tastes beyond just noise rock territory,” bassist Stin added. “Now that we had some form of creative comfort zones in place after hitting that milestone of putting out a full-length record, album #2 felt like the perfect opportunity to challenge those limits.”

Of the new song’s accompanying visual, Stin commented: “Will’s vision captures the essence of ‘I Am Dog Now’ by channeling his specific style of low-fi, exploitation cinema aesthetic into a dusty, religious bad-trip exclusive to the southern plains of America. Eagle eyed viewers may actually notice shots of the literal chat piles from which we take our name.”

Wild Pink Announces New Album ‘Dulling the Horns’, Shares New Single

John Ross has announced the next Wild Pink album: Dulling the Horns is set to arrive on October 4 via the band’s new label home Fire Talk. Today’s announcement comes with the release of the new single ‘The Fences of Stonehenge’. Check it out and find the album cover and tracklist below.

The follow-up to 2022’s ILYSM was written after frontman John Ross’ battle with cancer. “You zoom out, and I’m very fortunate,” Ross shared in a press release. “But Dulling the Horns came from the feeling of figuring out how do you deal with things and move forward and just keep creating.”

Speaking about ‘The Fences of Stonehenge’, Ross said: “I was messing around with some classic sounding lyrical tropes because I wanted to pick them apart as a song idea but also because they actually sounded good as lyrics. I think it works because this song is kind of about figuring out what to do when you realize you outgrew a lot of stuff you used to like. This song came together somewhat quickly and I was pretty sure it was gonna be the album opener when I was writing it.”

Earlier this year, Wild Pink surprise-released the Strawberry Eraser EP. Revisit our 2022 interview with Wild Pink.
