A24 to Restore and Rerelease Talking Heads’ ‘Stop Making Sense’

A24 has announced it will be restoring and theatrically rereleasing Talking Heads’ 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense later this year. In a new teaser accompanying the announcement, Byrne goes to the dry cleaners to pick up his iconic giant suit from the film. Watch it below.

In addition to the 4K restoration and rerelease, a 40th anniversary edition of the concert will available digitally and as a limited-edition deluxe vinyl on August 18. Newly mixed by Jerry Harrison and E.T. Thorngren, the new version will include performances of two songs – ‘Cities’ and ‘Big Business / I Zimbra’ – that have not been officially released. It will also feature a 28-page booklet with previously unpublished photos and new liner notes from Tina Weymouth, David Byrne, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison.

David Byrne contributed ‘This Is a Life’ to the soundtrack for the Best Picture-winning film A24 film Everything Everywhere All at Once, and performed the song with Son Lux and star Stephanie Hsu at the 2023 Academy Awards ceremony.
