Albums Out Today: Kali Uchis, 21 Savage, Kid Cudi, Marika Hackman, and More

In this segment, we showcase the most notable albums out each week. Here are the albums out on January 12, 2024:

    Kali Uchis, Orquídeas

Kali Uchis is back with Orquídeas, her second Spanish-language album and fourth LP overall. Following 2020’s Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞ and last year’s Red Moon in Venus, the record includes the previously released singles ‘Muñekita’ featuring El Alfa and JT, ‘Te Mata’, and the Karol G-assisted ‘Labios Mordidos’. “The orchid is the national flower of Colombia, and we have more species of orchid than anywhere on earth,” Uchis said in press materials. “I always felt distinctly intrigued and magnetized by the flower. This album is inspired by the timeless, eerie, mystic, striking, graceful and sensual allure of the orchid. With this vast scope of fresh energy, I wish to re-define the way we look at Latinas in music.”

    21 Savage, american dream

american dream, 21 Savage’s first solo studio album in six years, has arrived. Serving as the soundtrack to his debut film of the same name, the 15-track LP boasts collaborations with Young Thug, Brent Faiyaz, Doja Cat, Summer Walker, Travis Scott, Lil Durk, Burna Boy, and more. Earlier this week, the rapper shared a trailer for the biographical film American Dream: The 21 Savage Story, which stars Donald Glover and Stranger Things‘ Caleb McLaughlin.

    Kid Cudi, Insano

Kid Cudi has dropped his much-anticipated new album, Insano. Following his 2022 effort Entergalactic, the record spans 21 tracks – including the already released ‘Porsche Topless” and ‘At the Party’ – and clocks in at just over an hour. It features guest appearances from DJ Drama, Travis Scott, ASAP Rocky, Lil Yachty, Young Thug, Lil Wayne, XXXTentacio, and Pharrell Williams, as well as production from Take a Day Trip, Dot da Genius, WondaGurl, BNYX, Clams Casino, Keyon Christ, Da Honorable C.N.O.T.E., and more. The album’s cover art is a collaboration with artist and designer KAWS.

    Marika Hackman, Big Sigh

Marika Hackman has released her fourth album, Big Sigh, via Chrysalis Records. The London singer-songwriter produced the follow-up to 2019’s Any Human Friend with Sam Petts-Davies and longtime collaborator Charlie Andrew. “I’d always produced on my records, but I’d never backed myself enough to actually say that I had,” Hackman said in a statement. “I liked being a sponge and I saw the first two thirds of my career as a learning experience – I would sit back in a slightly deferential position to allow the dynamic to work. With this album I got to a point where I realised I’d done the learning, I knew what to do.” It was preceded by the singles ‘No Caffeine’‘Hanging’, ‘Slime’, and ‘The Yellow Mile’. Nailah Hunter, Lovegaze

Lovegaze is the debut full-length by Los Angeles-based harpist and multi-instrumentalist Nailah Hunter. Out now via Fat Possum, the record was previewed by the singles ‘Finding Mirrors’, Strange Delights’, and ‘Bleed’. “I think for a lot of people who play harp and do something else, they can very easily hide behind the harp and hide behind what people think your intention is with the instrument,” Hunter said in our Artist Spotlight interview. “As scary as it is, because it was, I’m really proud of myself for not hiding behind the harp with Lovegaze. I think it’s beautifully integrated throughout the album, I would still say it’s a harp-centric album, but it feels like the harp is asking the questions versus being the answer to the questions, in a way.”

    Infant Island, Obsidian Wreath

Fredericksburg, VA screamo band Infant Island have dropped a new album titled Obsidian Wreath. The follow-up to 2020’s Beneath was produced by Matthew Michel and features guest vocals from Greet Death members Harper Boyhtari and Logan Gaval (‘Kindling’) and .gif from god’s Andrew Schwartz (‘Another Cycle’), as well as contributions from members of Undeath, King Yosef, For Your Health, Senza, Malevich, Mikau, and more.
