Justice – the French duo of Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé – have announced their first album in nearly eight years. Hyperdrama lands on April 26(via Ed Banger/Because Music. Today’s announcement comes with the release of two songs: ‘One Night/All Night’, featuring Tame Impala, and ‘Generator’. Below, you can check out director Anton Tammi‘s video for ‘Hyperdrama’, listen to ‘Generator’, and find Hyperdrama‘s cover art (by Thomas Jumin).
Commenting on ‘One Night/All Night’, Justice said in a statement: “This is Kevin [Parker] singing. This is the touchstone of this record. Like okay, let’s make a song that’s all techno, then all disco, and then it’s all techno again. It’s a bit like when you have wine that doesn’t fit well with what you’re doing and they’re fighting for attention but it still tastes good.”
Of ‘Generator’, they added: “To us, this one sounds like ‘Getaway’ by the Salsoul Orchestra, but with gabber and classic ‘90s techno sounds. We love all kinds of music that don’t really appear in Justice. But I would say that the main two types of music that coexist in Justice since the beginning are disco funk and more electronic music. And particularly on Generator we make them coexist, but not really in a peaceful way. We like this idea of making them fight a bit for attention.”
Tammi said of the ‘One Night/All Night’ clip: “I suggested to them that what if we dive in? What if their music video was a journey inside the cross? I dreamed of creating a piece like this. A strange and experimental object that looks like rave lighting inside human lungs and strobe light around a human heart.”
