The most illustrious trophy in all of club football history is the Champions League, it is the pinnacle of the sport and often gets the most attendances and views of any sport in the world. The trophy and the competition are what a lot of players look for as their goal in football. Not just winning it, playing in the Champions League is often enough for some players and this speaks to how important it is to the sport.
When we look at the teams later, we are going to look at teams that are all considered underdogs and when you look at popular betting sites and what they think of the teams, it is reflected in that. The Champions League this season has a new format and because of this, there is a firm belief that anything could happen, however, when you look at the Champions League betting odds, it is clear that the bookies don’t agree with this attitude, as they have Real Madrid and Manchester City as firm favourites.
Now looking at the teams who have never won the Champions League, we have some iconic clubs and any of them winning it would be very deserved.
Arsenal
We will start with the team that probably has the best chance of winning out of the three we will mention today. Arsenal have been in a rebuild since they appointed Mikel Arteta and have spent a lot of money trying to get a major trophy for the first time in many years.
In Arteta’s first season, Arsenal won the FA Cup but since then they haven’t seen big silverware since. The clear plan of this project is to get Arsenal their first Premier League title since 2004 and two years in a row they have come very close to this goal; finishing second twice.
The overall plan of this project is to dominate football and with Arsenal looking as great as ever, we could see them win the Champions League for the first time in their history, which puts all of their squad in the history books forever.
PSG
Overall, when it comes to money spent and transfer records broken, Paris Saint Germain tops that list by a huge margin. They are one of the richest clubs in the world and in their hunt to win the Champions League they bought some of the best attackers in the world and tried to build a super team in the hopes that they could finally get their hands on the trophy that has been avoiding them for years.
After all that money spent, including €200m on Mbappe, they failed to do so and he left on a free transfer to Real Madrid which is the opposite of what PSG would want as Real Madrid just came off winning their 15th Champions League trophy.
Bayer Leverkusen
After a record season, Bayer Leverkusen has a lot to follow up on in the 24/25 season. Last year, they won the league unbeaten, won the DFB Pokal unbeaten and got to the Europa League final unbeaten before losing to Atalanta.
This season was magic and one that will be remembered forever and although the season for Bayer 04 hasn’t started as strong as last year, they still look like a great squad and with Xabi Alonso in charge and their core squad still there, I think counting the German champions out would be a mistake.
As I said earlier, Arsenal are the team most likely to do it out of the three here, but Bayer Leverkusen are closely behind and if they can pull off the shock of the season last year, they can do it again in 2025.
