The most recent sports comedy to hit Netflix is a charmer from the get-go. Running Point stars Kate Hudson, so it’s easy to see its appeal just by glancing at the poster.
Additionally, one of the show’s creators is Mindy Kaling. She already delighted Netflix subscribers with Never Have I Ever, an offbeat comedy that perfectly captures the tedious ordeal of being a teen.
This time around, she tackles the male-dominated world of basketball. If you’re in the mood for a pleasant, funny binge, the show is a slam dunk. But will it be back for season 2?
Running Point Season 2 Release Date
At the time of writing, Running Point hasn’t been officially renewed for a second season.
That said, the show is dominating Netflix charts and has a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. In other words, the odds are in its favour.
As long as the series gets renewed, we’ll likely be able to enjoy Running Point Season 2 sometime in early 2026. Given that the finale left things wide open, we can hardly wait.
Running Point Cast

What Will Happen in Running Point Season 2?
Running Point revolves around Isla, a reformed party girl who is put in charge of her family’s pro basketball team when her older brother gets embroiled in a scandal.
Harbouring a lifelong passion for the sport, she’s eager to prove herself, but meets resistance every step of the way. From her other two brothers being skeptical of her skills to rebellious players and stiff competition, she realises just how difficult it is to carve a new path. Moreover, her life off the court doesn’t get any easier.
Equal parts funny and endearing, Running Point is captivating whether or not you’re into basketball. A breezy binge at 10 episodes, it does a great job of letting you know Isla and empathise with her struggles. By the time the final end credits roll, you’re eager to find out what happens next.
Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to do so. The first season ends with Isla’s older brother reclaiming his turf and her love life taking an intriguing turn.
Running Point season 2 is likely to revolve around Isla trying to regain control of the Los Angeles Waves, which should make for exciting television.
Is Running Point Based on True Events?
The series was inspired by Jeanie Buss, president of the Los Angeles Lakers, who also acts as an executive producer.
However, the story is highly fictionalised, so don’t expect a play-by-play of how Buss took control of the popular team.
Running Point is a comedy, not a docu-series. That’s probably why it comes across as way more fun.
