Adolescence Season 2: Cast, Rumours & Release Date

When a child is accused of a heinous crime, everyone else is left to answer some difficult questions. That’s the premise behind Adolescence, the most recent Netflix series to take the internet by storm.

Thanks to its captivating filming style and horrifying premise, the psychological drama has you hooked from the get-go and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. It may only consist of four episodes, but it’s the type of television that lingers. You’ll think about it long after the end credits roll.

Naturally, you’re probably wondering whether there’s more to come. While that’s unlikely at the time of writing… never say never.

Adolescence Season 2 Release Date

Adolescence is described as a limited series, which means that it wasn’t meant to return for a potential season 2. Additionally, the four episodes end on a pretty definite note and don’t leave viewers hanging.

Still, given the drama’s resounding success, it’s possible Netflix might commission more episodes in the future.

The show currently has a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes and has been all over social media following its premiere. As long as the creators are on board, the story could always continue.

Even if that happens, though, we’re unlikely to see Adolescence season 2 until 2026 or 2027.

Adolescence Cast

  • Owen Cooper as Jamie Miller
  • Stephen Graham as Eddie Miller
  • Ashley Walters as Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe
  • Erin Doherty as Briony Ariston
  • Faye Marsay as DS Misha Frank
  • Christine Tremarco as Manda Miller
  • Mark Stanley as Paul Barlow

What Will Happen in Adolescence Season 2?

Adolescence revolves around Jamie, a 13-year-old who is accused of murdering a schoolmate. We see how he’s arrested, questioned, and eventually sent to a youth psychiatric facility.

As all this occurs, the authorities and the boy’s parents try to understand why this happened and what could have led Jamie down this path.

In other words, Adolescence isn’t really a whodunit. It centres on the “why” of the matter, a decision that pays off. The show is powerful TV, raising pertinent questions about online culture, social media, bullying, and more.

On top of that, each episode is shot in one take, heightening the tension and adding to the show’s immersive atmosphere.

While the drama doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, there are many plot points Adolescence season 2 could address. Jamie’s trial, his victim’s family perspective, the aftermath of the events for Jamie’s parents – any of these threads would make for a fascinating continuation.

Is Adolescence Based on True Events?

Jamie’s story is fictional, so Adolescence is not based on true events. That said, the show’s idea did come from real life, according to co-creator Stephen Graham, who also plays Jamie’s father.

“There was an incident where a young boy [allegedly] stabbed a girl. It shocked me. I was thinking, ‘What’s going on? What’s happening in society where a boy stabs a girl to death? What’s the inciting incident here?” Graham told Netflix.

If you haven’t tuned in yet, that’s the only way to find out.
