In the last few years, the Hily dating app has emerged with claims that it is a more authentic option for online dating. With the slogan “Date as You Are”, and features that encourage users to create detailed profiles, could this be true?
But is Hily a scam? To find out, I enlisted the help of some friends, and used TrustPilot to gather some customer reviews. Here’s what I learned about Hily.
Is Hily Fake? What Customer Reviews Tell
I recruited two single friends to create accounts on the Hily app, use it for a while, and then tell me about their experiences. Before I get into those results, I learned some things from reviews on TrustPilot. Here’s a summary:
- Customer support receives consistently high ratings
- The app is easy to use with few technical issues reported
- Individuals who pursued serious connections and valued conversation had the best results
- I had to filter out some negative reviews for factual inaccuracy
- Some users were dissatisfied because they did not achieve their desired results or encountered scammers on the app, although most reported support addressing these issues effectively

Bringing things closer to home, I spoke with my friends about their experiences with Hily dating. Here’s our brief interview. I have changed their names for privacy.
You both used the Android version. What was your experience downloading the app and getting started? Is Hily legit?
Darrin: Oh yeah, totally legit. Honestly, onboarding went very easy. I’d say the entire process of getting the app and creating a profile was maybe ten minutes.
Alexandria: Yeah, same here. That part is set up pretty well.
Let’s talk results. How long before you connected with somebody?
Darrin: It was fast! Less than a couple of hours.
Alexandria: It took longer for me, I had so many matches right away! Truly a confidence boost but makes it harder to choose. That was cool though.
Have you pursued any relationships or friendships?
Darrin: Actually, yes! I met someone who appreciated by goofy profile pics and weird Spongebob references. At first, I thought we would just have fun exchanging silly memes and one-liners. But, it turns out she’s a really cool person. We’ve gone out a few times. I love that we connected just being weird and silly, but I can also see this going somewhere. Kinda weird because I’ve never been a dating app guy. Before this I generally met women on the amateur comedy circuit, through friends, or at my church.
Alexandria: I have had a couple of casual dates. I guess for me, it’s just been okay. Like, I can see the appeal, especially for someone like Darrin who we both know has been looking for a relationship for a while now. For me, I think maybe it’s a season of life thing. Work has pretty much taken over my life. I’m buying a house, and I’m working on my dissertation. I barely have time to engage with a dating app. When I do, and I hope this isn’t too crass, my focus isn’t on relationships. Maybe I’m just not Hily’s target market, and that’s okay!
Final Thoughts
Hily is a refreshing alternative for single folks who value connection and compatibility. It’s worth a try for folks who fit into those categories. Just know that you may have a less than stellar experience if you don’t fully understand the user experience or prefer casual intimacy.
