Fortnite: How To Turn Off Simple Build

Ever since Fortnite Chapter 7 debuted the Simple Build feature, players have had mixed opinions about it, which naturally has led to one common question: how to turn off Simple Build in Fortnite. As a push to help players easily and quickly create structures, Epic Games introduced the Simple Edit or Simple Build option in Fortnite, which promises to make “learning how to build simpler” by giving you an array of pre-edit build options and letting you build structures on the fly by simply looking where you want to build. However, as with any new feature, it might not work for everyone. So if you tried it and realized it’s not for you, or you’re still on the fence, here’s how to turn off Simple Build in Fortnite.

Fortnite: How To Turn Off Simple Build

Long-time Fortnite fans will know that building has always been a big part of the game’s identity, but recent updates have opened up the game to anyone looking for straight-up battle-royale action without the burden of building. That’s basically the idea behind Simple Build, which takes care of most of the heavy lifting.

Still, if you’ve tried it and decided it’s not for you, you can turn off Fortnite Simple Build by heading into in-game Settings. From there, go to the Game tab, and scroll down until you find the “Building” option. Under this, you’ll find the Simple Build toggle, which you can then set to OFF. And if you ever want to turn it on again, just come back to the same toggle and turn it ON. Just keep in mind that Simple Build isn’t available in competitive game modes.

For what it’s worth, Fortnite Simple Build is a clever little addition that will push newer players to check out and get a feel for building without the usual learning curve. Unlike Fortnite’s traditional building system, where you have to create structures all on your own, Simple Build lets you build structures with literally just two buttons.

Once you turn it on and switch to building mode, your Primary input (the default is left mouse key on PC or R2 or RT on controller) will place stairs, floors, or roofs depending on where you’re looking. For example, looking up or down will place stairs, while looking straight ahead will drop a floor instead. Your Secondary input (the default is right mouse key on PC or L2 or LT) will always build walls, so you can easily combine the two inputs and throw together quick structures without constantly flipping through different pieces.
