Bloc Party have announced a new album called Anatomy of a Brief Romance. The follow-up to 2022’s Alpha Games is slated to arrive on September 11, marking the first album on the newly formed record label cOnTAGIOUS LTD, a Virgin Music Group imprint. Bloc Party worked with producer Trevor Horn (Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes To Hollywood) on the new album. “Every lyric you’re hearing on this record was something that actually happened to me,” said Kele Okereke, who wrote the songs in the wake of a painful separation with the father of his children. “I had to tell the story, from start to finish.”
Okereke noted that he found himself being “less prudish about sex and connection and intimacy” than he once was. “I have no qualms talking about it, because that connection is important.” Commenting on ‘Coming on Strong’, he added: “It’s that feeling of, I’ve had my eye on this person for a while, and then we’re finally in a situation where we can be something to each other. And that’s such a seductive feeling. You’re not seeing their problems, and they’re not seeing your problems. You’re just shaping up and getting ready for this ride.”
