Following the success of The Summer I Turned Pretty and Off Campus, Prime Video is doubling down on the romance genre. The streamer’s latest effort, Every Year After, is an adaptation of another popular novel – Every Summer After, by Carley Fortune.
This time around, the focus is on a teen romance that might be rekindled years later. The show features a quaint town, appealing leads, and a massive secret. Is that enough for the series to go on for years? Here’s what we know so far.

What Is Every Year After About?
A romantic drama, Every Year After follows Persephone “Percy” Fraser and Sam Florek. Their relationship evolves from childhood friendship into first love over six memorable summers in the small town of Barry’s Bay.
Told across two timelines, the story alternates between their teenage years and the present day. Now, Percy returns to the town after a decade-long absence. Forced to confront painful memories, she must decide whether some loves are meant to last and figure out if certain mistakes are truly impossible to overcome.
The first season ends on an ambiguous note for the main couple, as well as a cliffhanger that leaves fans wanting more. Showrunner Amy B. Harris revealed that she has a five-season plan for the series.
“Obviously, there’s another book that’s connected to Barry’s Bay that I think will be a very exciting blueprint for us for a potential season 2,” she added when interviewed by Entertainment Weekly.
That book is One Golden Summer, which revolves around Sam’s brother Charlie. All in all, Every Year After season 2 has plenty of narrative avenues left to explore. Fingers crossed it will get a chance to.
