A different kind of psychological thriller is currently making waves on Netflix. Notes from the Last Row expertly builds tension not by relying on explosive action, but by drawing in viewers with a complex mentor-student dynamic.
The tactic works. The Korean production is currently one of the most-watched non-English series on the platform, with 2.6 million views last week. It’s also a Top 10 show in 21 countries. Could that mean a follow-up is on the way? Here’s what we know so far.

What Is Notes from the Last Row About?
Loosely based on the Spanish play El chico de la última fila, Notes from the Last Row centres on Heo Mun-oh. A hot-tempered literature professor and failed novelist, he has never recovered from the collapse of his writing career.
Things change when Mun-oh discovers that a quiet student named Lee Kang is extremely talented. Fascinated by the young man’s writing, he begins to give him private lessons. As the story grows darker and more personal, Mun-oh becomes increasingly obsessed with the manuscript.
Turns out, Kang’s writing is based on observations of Mun-oh’s rival, who also happens to be the source of his inferiority complex. At the same time, the relationship between teacher and student evolves into a dangerous psychological game. The kind that makes it hard to stop watching.
By the time the finale wraps up, viewers learn what’s really been going on between Mun-oh and Kang. While Notes from the Last Row season 2 is unlikely, the show is a tense and rewarding watch. It messes with your perspective in the best way possible.
