Remi Wolf – ‘Twiggy’
Remi Wolf is back with a new song called ‘Twiggy’. Steeped in warm vulnerability, the song was debuted live last weekend during a surprise appearance at Hayley Williams’ Newport Folk Festival set. “I wrote Twiggy about people I’ve been with that lack both butts and emotional availability,” Wolf explained. “And how I like that. Or maybe it’s just about the messiness of addiction? Idk, you decide :)”
Cardi B – ‘Ah Ha’
Cardi B has returned with ‘Ah Ha’, her first new music since last year’s Am I The Drama?. Produced by past collaborator DJ SwanQo, the bouncy, maximalist track finds the rapper fully in her element.
Slayyyter – ‘brand new chanel$’
Ahead of her sold-out world tour, Slayyter has dropped ‘brand new chanel$’, a thumping, radiant sister track to WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA‘s ‘BEAT UP CHANEL$’. It comes paired with a self-directed video.
Um, Jennifer? – ‘Bushwick Ratbag’
Um, Jennifer? have announced a new EP, Dirty Twice, with the biting lead single, ‘Bushwick Ratbag’. The five-track collection drops August 21 via Final Girl Records.
Open Mike Eagle & Kenny Segal – ‘She Swear I’m Colorblind’ [feat. billy woods]
Open Mike Eagle and Kenny Segal have shared a new track from their new collaborative album, DOOMED!, following ‘Unfinished Concrete Initials’ and ‘Watching A Movie Called Freedom By Myself’. Eerily intimate and reflective, ‘She Swear I’m Colorblind’ features billy woods, whose label Backwoodz is releasing the record.
Wolf Alice – ‘Hammond Song’ (The Roches Cover) [feat. Sunflower Bean’s Julia Cumming and Bria Salmena]
Wolf Alice have offered an evocative take on The Roches’ ‘Hammond Song’ with help from Sunflower Bean’s Julia Cumming and Bria Salmena. It’s taken from the upcoming The Clearing (B Sides), an expanded edition of their latest album. “We love this song by The Roches, the guitar work and the vocal treatment, we actually referenced in Blue Weekend but it stuck around as something that inspired us for The Clearing too,” Ellie Rowsell explained. “Recording in LA, where both Bria and Julia were living, it just seemed like a really fun thing to do to learn those harmonies and sing them with 2 of our favourite singers.”
Billy Strings – ‘Mill Town Flood’
Billy Strings has previewed So Much For Goodbyes, his new album co-produced with T Bone Burnett, with a new song called ‘Mill Town Flood’. Featuring backing vocals from Daniel Tashian and Lindsay Lou, it’s a lovely, mournful tune written from the perspective of an alcoholic lumber worker.
The Drums and Mareux – ‘It Didn’t Matter’
The Drums leader Jonny Pierce has launched a new label, Abysmal Records. Its inaugural release is a pillowy collaboration with Iranian American artist Mareux, the first in a six-month series of collaborative singles.
Ari Lennox – ‘Hookah Baby’
Ari Lennox is prepping Vacancy: Late Checkout, the deluxe edition of her third album, and today she’s shared the breezy ‘Hookah Baby’. The track was co-written by Alivia Blue, with production from Tommy Brown “TBHits” and Leather Jacket.
Porch Light – ‘Under’
Ahead of their debut Lollapalooza performance this weekend, Minneapolis band Porch Light have shared a ferocious new single, ‘Under’. “Full transparency, we just really wanted to make a face-melting song I could scream on,” vocalist Jackie Uhas explained. “The guys came to my parents’ house for a writing session and began jamming. ‘Under’” was born, with the only parts I had written at the time being the verses. It took some marinating, but a few months later at practice, I just started yelling ‘WAKE ME UP’ over the chorus. When we went to record the album, I made it a point that these vocals would be the last thing I recorded over our 10-day session. I’m not trained to yell without damaging my voice, and I didn’t want to hold back; I also thought it would be fitting if I was drunk. Our last night, Timberwolves game on, a few beers and a Jameson shot deep, I stumbled to the bathroom and wrote the bridge sitting on the toilet. 5 minutes later I recorded vocals, our producer Caleb having not heard my parts yet. Safe to say, nobody knew what to expect.”
