Agnes Obel Announces New Album, Shares New Single ‘Laymelli’

Agnes Obel has announced her first album in six years. The Myopia follow-up is called The Meaning of Flowers, and it’s set to arrive on September 18 via Deutsche Grammophon. Today’s announcement comes with the release of the lead single ‘Laymelli’, which you can hear below.

Obel wrote, recorded, arranged, and produced the new album in her own studio in Berlin. In addition to herself herself on vocals (at times pitch-shifted), piano, and keys, guest musicians contributed violin, viola, cello, bass, lap steel, harmonium, flute, sax, percussion, and backing vocals.

Since recording her last album, Obel has given birth to her first child. She dedicates The Meaning of Flowers to her daughter, writing: “She who has changed me and raised me and taught me so much – and I can feel so much more awaits to be learned.”
