Something may not be what it seems in this new Netflix psychological thriller. Led by a cast featuring Toni Collette, Wayward features an evil rehab center and enough intrigue to keep viewers hooked to the screen.
The numbers back up that claim. Wayward is currently the most-watched English show on the platform, with 8.2 million views this week. Does that mean fans can expect a sequel?
Wayward Season 2 Release Date
Let’s get the bad news out of the way first: Netflix hasn’t officially renewed the series for more episodes. At least, not yet. Additionally, Wayward is listed as a limited series, which typically means that season 1 is all we’re going to get.
However, the platform sometimes waits a bit before making a decision, and the viewership numbers are promising, to say the least. Additionally, creator Mae Martin, who also stars, is open to the idea of coming back for more.
“I was told it was a miniseries, but there’s definitely more story to tell, I think. We left all those characters in crisis, basically. Hopefully, it’s tied up enough that it’s satisfying to watch as a series,” they told TV Insider.
As long as the show continues, Wayward season 2 could arrive sometime in early 2027.

What Could Happen in Wayward Season 2?
When police officer Alex Dempsey and his pregnant wife, Laura, move to the seemingly tranquil Tall Pines, they believe they’re starting fresh. However, Laura was once a student at Tall Pines Academy, an institution for troubled teens run by the charismatic Evelyn Wade.
At the same time, we follow teenage best friends Abbie and Leila, who deal with the school’s weird vibes. Before long, they begin to suspect that the Academy is far more sinister than it appears. Dempsey begins to look into local rumors and strange disappearances as well, which leads him to confront disturbing secrets that bind the entire town.
The show is a mix of genres, with creepy undertones and enough subtext for viewers to chew on. By the time the show’s climax rolls around, alliances shift, Evelyn feels her power slip away, and everyone has to decide whether to stay or go. We won’t spoil how things turn out.
While the ending does offer answers, it also leaves room for a potential Wayward season 2. A new batch of episodes could follow the characters in the aftermath, as they grapple with the consequences of their actions in the finale. We’d tune in for that.
