If you’ve hit a locked door in Hollow Knight: Silksong and had to turn back, you’re missing a Simple Key. As you might have guessed from the name, Simple Keys in Hollow Knight: Silksong are key items that can be used to open locked doors that hide new locations, side paths, and valuable rewards. Knowing where to find Simple Keys can save you a lot of work later on, especially since there are only a few available and each key can be used only once. With that in mind, here are all Simple Key locations in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Hollow Knight: Silksong: All Simple Key Locations Explained
There are a total of four Simple Keys in Hollow Knight: Silksong, spread across different regions of Pharloom. You can purchase keys from merchants or find them through exploration. Below are all Simple Key locations listed in the order they typically become available:
First Simple Key Location
You can pick up your first Simple Key in Hollow Knight: Silksong from Pebb, a vendor in Bone Bottom village, just to the right of the Bellway Station. It’ll set you back 500 Rosaries.
Second Simple Key Location
The second Simple Key can be found in Sinner’s Road, an optional area you can reach after unlocking the Cling Grip ability in Shellwood. This key will drop from a Roachkeeper near the top of the region. After unlocking Cling Grip, simply head to Greymoor, climb the western tower, wall jump up and take the right exit.
Then, cross the bridge and move through the eastern tower to reach an elevator. Climb on top of it and platform upward toward the top-right to enter Sinner’s Road. Once inside, keep moving right and upward until you encounter a second Roachkeeper. Defeat the second Roachkeeper to obtain the Simple Key.
Third Simple Key Location
The third Simple Key shows up in Act 2, after you reach The Citadel. You can buy it from Jubliana, a merchant at the First Shrine in the Choral Chambers, and it costs 650 Rosaries. If she is not there when you arrive, you will need to complete “The Wandering Merchant” quest first, which you can start at the nearby quest board after ringing the bell at the First Shrine.
To find Jubliana, head to the hallway just above the “Choral Chambers” on the map and follow her trail. You will eventually come across her hiding while Citadel guards harass her. Deal with the enemies so she can make it back safely to the First Shrine. Once Jubliana sets up shop, you can buy the Simple Key from her inventory.
Fourth Simple Key Location
The last Simple Key in Hollow Knight: Silksong is tucked away in the Sands of Karak, which again is an optional area you can reach during Act 2 or Act 3. Getting there takes a bit of setup, since you will need the Clawline ability from The Cauldron in the Underworks first. Once you have Clawline, head to the Blasted Steps, move west toward Pinstress’ house, grapple the hanging ring and zigzag upward through the rings to reach a hole in the ceiling.
Push through the cave to enter the Sands of Karak, then use the yellow orbs to parkour across toward the far right of the area. Near the end, you will find a bench with a dead body hidden behind a breakable spiked wall next to an elevator. Rest there, then interact with the body to pick up the final Simple Key.
