Grouper’s Liz Harris recently revived her her shoegaze trio Helen, which released its first LP in 11 years, Linda’s Head, last week. Now, she’s back with the announcement of a new solo project. Out November 27 via kranky, Music for Two Films About Water comprises two two long instrumental tracks Harris made to score two short films that – you guessed it – revolve around water. The second track, a 22-minute piano meditation composed for Takashi Makino’s Constellation, is out now.
Constellation is part of a collection of works exploring how new meanings emerge through the arrangement of existing images, memories, and fragments, which in the film appear and disappear within mercurial water textures. The album’s first track, ‘Untitled (from We Exhale)’, is taken from Tanja Engelberts’ We Exhale, which takes the perspective of the Rhône River, tracing its changes through damming, channeling, and pollution.
