Maia Friedman is a New York singer-songwriter who grew up in the Sierra National Forest region of central California with a film editor father and Jungian psychoanalyst mother. After honing her sound for years as a member of both Dirty Projectors and Coco, she released her debut album, Under the New Light, in 2022.
