Tim Heidecker Announces New Album ‘Slipping Away’, Shares Video for New Single

Tim Heidecker has announced his next album, Slipping Away. The follow-up to 2022’s High School is set to arrive on October 18 via Bloodshot Records. The lead single ‘Well’s Running Dry’, out today, is about writer’s block. “As soon as I wrote that, I worried that itʼs not cool to talk about,” Heidecker said in a statement. “But a second later, I thought — well thatʼs challenging and exciting. Heidecker made Slipping Away with the Very Good Band: Eliana Athayde on bass, vocals, and additional production, Josh Adams on drums, Vic Berger on keys, and Connor “Catfish” Gallaher on guitar and pedal steel. His daughter Amelia also contributed to the record.

“Having been doing quote-unquote ‘entertainment’ for 20 years now in different forms, it
was a revitalizing experience to be out of my comfort zone a little bit,” Heidecker shared. “It was a learning opportunity.” He added, “People ask me a lot about the difference between making music and comedy. I finally got to a point where I was like, ‘Let’s stop thinking about these things as genres.’ It comes out in different formats but hopefully it all becomes one big thing that I’m making. I think it’s fairly united.”

Bob Dylan Announces Massive ‘The 1974 Live Recordings’ Box Set

Bob Dylan has announced a massive 27-CD box set capturing his 1974 arena tour with the Band. Due September 20, Bob Dylan – The 1974 Live Recordings features a whopping 431 songs – 417 of them previously unreleased, 133 of them newly mixed from the original 16-track tapes – as well as liner notes by journalist Elizabeth Nelson. Today’s announcement comes with the release of a version of ‘Forever Young’ that was recorded live in Seattle on Saturday, February 9, 1974. Listen to it below.

In addition to the CD box set, Third Man Records will release a 3xLP vinyl box set called The 1974 Live Recordings – The Missing Songs From Before The Flood, featuring versions of every song from the 1974 tour that was not included on the original tracklist for the Dylan and the Band’s live album Before The Flood. The set will be available exclusively through Third Man’s subscription series, the Vault.

Lia Kohl Announces New Album ‘Normal Sounds’, Unveils New Single

Chicago-based artist Lia Kohl has announced her third LP, Normal Sounds. The follow-up to last year’s The Ceiling Reposes is slated for release on August 30 via Moon Glyph. Listen to the new single ‘Car Alarm, Turn Signal’, which features flute and electronics from New York City sound artist Ka Baird, below.

“‘Car Alarm, Turn Signal’ is an attempt to capture the overlapping polyrhythms of the streets around my house: a late-night uber home, a car alarm outside the neighborhood market, a turn signal in a bird-filled parking lot,” Kohl shared in a statement. “I’ve woven these recordings together, mimicking them with cello and synths, expanding them into a lilting, expansive lullaby. The track opens with Ka Baird’s fierce, avian, flute playing; a shock of sunlight before we’re lulled to sleep. The video mirrors my process in making the album: taking something mundane — in this case, shadows on the sidewalk — and paying enough attention to them to see their beautiful, ephemeral geometry.”

Today, you can also hear a 11-track Kohl contributed to Just Cause Vol. 1, a new compilation with 100% of the proceeds going to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. Check out our Artist Spotlight interview with Lia Kohl.

Water From Your Eyes Announce New EP, Share Cover of Chumbawamba’s ‘The Good Ship Lifestyle’

Water From Your Eyes have announced a covers EP, MP3 Player 1, which lands this Friday, July 12 via Matador. It features covers of songs by Adele, Al Green, Third Eye Blind, and Chumbawamba, and today, they’ve offered their take on Chumbawamba’s 1997 track ‘The Good Ship Lifestyle’. Listen to it below.

Rachel Brown and Nate Amos laid down MP3 Player 1 around the same time they recorded their Matador debut, Everyone’s Crushed. It continues a tradition the duo established on their 2021 covers LP Somebody Else’s Songs. “These are covers that we made at the same time as we were finishing Everyone’s Crushed,” the band explained. “Nate chose ‘Good Ship Lifestyle’ and Rachel chose the other three. Chumbawamba is an obvious favorite of ours, but it is between Adele in the style of The Cure and Al Green as the most left field covers we could have chosen. We think it’s funny and good, but ultimately that will be left to the listeners to decide for themselves.”

Earlier this year, Water from Your Eyes covered Ween’s ‘If You Could Save Yourself (You’d Save Us All)’ for Sounds of Saving and 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s ‘Song That Found Me At The Right Time’ series.

Charly Bliss Release New Single ‘Waiting for You’

Charly Bliss have dropped a new single, ‘Waiting for You’, from their forthcoming album Forever – out August 16 on Lucky Number. Following previous cuts ‘Calling You Out’ and ‘Nineteen’, the track comes paired with a video directed by frequent collaborator Henry Kaplan. Check it out below.

According to the band’s Eva Hendricks, ‘Waiting for You’ is “a love song for my bandmates. While I was separated from Sam, Spencer, & Dan during the pandemic, I remember watching videos of us playing shows and thinking ‘How could I have taken this for granted?’ I couldn’t see how beautiful everything really was and how lucky we were. It was agonizing to be apart for that long but helpful, because I don’t think I’ll ever let myself forget that again.”

Of the accompanying clip, Kaplan said: “The room is full of personal little Charly Bliss Easter eggs. Sam’s daughter’s first school photo, a t-shirt I made with my best friend Amanda at the mall when we were 8 years old, birthday cards, letters, and notes. It had to be personal to match how sentimental the lyrics are, and Henry and the whole team worked so hard to make that possible.”

Dawn Richard and Spencer Zahn Announce New Album, Release New Song ‘Breath Out’

Dawn Richard and multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer Spencer Zahn have announced their second collaborative album, Quiet in a World Full of Noise. The follow-up to 2022’s Pigments will be released on October 4 via Merge Records. The making of the new LP began last year in upstate New York. “I wrote all these stream-of-consciousness pieces on piano, and they were eerie, spacious piano tracks,” Zahn said in a press release. A day after listening to Zahn’s piano recordings, Richard went into the studio to write and record melodies and lyrics. “I did not write this down—I purged it out, and then I didn’t change anything after it,” she explained. “Our family has a distorted view of therapy; I’ve had to do a lot of healing on my own.”

Quiet in a World Full of Nois features Bryan Senti on strings, CJ Camerieri on brass, and the 26-person Budapest Film Orchestra. “Right now, everyone’s a little bit overwhelmed,” Richard concluded. “I hope that this will be the record that people put on when they need the opportunity for reflection, when they need the stillness in their lives, now more than ever.”

Christian Lee Hutson Announces New Album, Shares New Single ‘After Hours’

Christian Lee Hutson has announced a new album, Paradise Pop. 10, which is set for release on September 27 via ANTI- Records. The follow-up to 2022’s Quitters was co-produced by frequent collaborators Phoebe Bridgers, Marshall Vore, and Joseph Lorge. It also includes guest vocals from Bridgers, as well as Katy Kirby and Maya Hawke. The first single, ‘After Hours’, which features synths from Shahzad Ismaily, comes with a video directed by Meg Ha. “I wanted to make an eyes up record,” Hutson, who moved from Los Angeles to New York, said in a statement. “A looking forward record.” He added:

Sometimes when you live somewhere for a really long time, the place starts to feel like a memory graveyard. Every corner becomes kind of haunted in a way, kind of dragging you out of the present. That’s what LA became like for me. Spending so much time revisiting all these emotional landmarks ended up giving me the feeling that I was missing my life. Like it was passing me while I was looking the other way…. It felt really connected to the city. I would spend half my life in the car, just completely on autopilot, re-living my life, from the beginning, on repeat every day.

Paradise Pop. 10 takes its name from a real location deep in the woods of Parke County, Indiana, near where Hutson spent part of his childhood. Just past the population sign, a row of 5 houses sit on one side of the road and a cemetery on the other.

“When I was a kid, my dad used to take me up there, mostly because of the novelty of the town limits sign, but also because it was so quiet and peaceful,” Hutson explained. “For years, he would say that if life ever got too crazy, we could go up there and start living our real lives; be the people we were always meant to be.”

He continued: “It occurred to me while making this record, that most of our lives we spend waiting to ‘be the people we were always meant to be.’ I wanted to name this record after that town because it always symbolized an arrival to me. It was the ‘when’ that I looked forward to as a child. ‘When’ it all made sense and I was finally who I was meant to be.”

W. H. Lung Announce New Album, Share Video for New Song ‘How to Walk’

W. H. Lung have announced a new album called Every Inch of Earth Pulsates. The follow-up to 2021’s Vanities is set for release on October 18 through Melodic. Check out the new single ‘How to Walk’ below, and scroll down for the album cover and tracklist.

The new LP finds the Mancunian synthpop outfit working with Ross Orton (MIA, Arctic Monkeys, Working Men’s Club). “Ross is the Sheffield Steve Albini,” singer Joseph Evans said in a press release. “He’s the king of not overthinking it and trusting the process of the art of recording songs. He was always there to stop us fucking around with cerebral stuff and get it down.”

Guitarist Tom Sharkett added: “He was the exact producer we needed without us even realising. His productions and mixes are bombastic, lively and in your face. He brought a real dose of magic to the songs we’d written.”
