Premiere: mimi bay, ‘pick me up’ ft. Stevan

Multi-instrumentalist Mimi Bergman – aka mimi bay, who we featured in our Artist Spotlight series back in 2019 – will be releasing a new song featuring Australian songwriter and producer Stevan tomorrow (May 7). The dreamy, lo-fi track, titled ‘pick me up’, marks her third offering of 2021 following ‘no doubt’ and the ‘keep it’ and is taken from her upcoming EP, far from home, out June 4. The new single is accompanied by a music video, which you can watch exclusively below ahead of its official release.

”’pick me up’ is about when things keep getting in-between and creates distance between two people who want to be together,” mimi explained in a statement. “I wanted to capture the confusion and frustration that comes with the lack of communication. I’ve known Stevan since 2018 when we first made a song together and I knew he would add so much to the track and really take it where it needed to go.”

Stevan added that he is “so happy to finally have a track out with Mimi. We’ve known each other for a while now online and it’s been awesome watching her grow. I think this track highlights both of our strong points as artists. I’m excited for people to hear it!!”

Talking about the video, mimi explained:

We had this other idea for an animated video when we first started this video project. We had to come up with something that could include both me and Stevan while I was in Sweden and he was in Australia. We realized we didn’t have a lot of time so that video idea fell through and we had to come up with something else. We had the idea of this 90s bedroom and putting him on a vhs tape that would be playing in the room and I thought it was a great solution to the different countries situation. I wanted it to feel like as if this person in this bedroom was watching old memories on the tv and looking back at a happier time. I wanted the results of this gap caused by the lack of communication which the song is all about, distracted, anxious etc, to be the overall feeling of the video.
