The A to Z of Baccarat

One of the most-loved casino classics around, Baccarat has truly earned its place on the casino floor. From your local brick-and-mortar location, to the latest and greatest online casino site, Baccarat is here to stay – and you can now get the live-action experience from the comfort of your own home with live casino games.

Want to know a bit more about this iconic game? Read on as we take you through the A to Z of Baccarat.

    Banker Bet

The banker bet is widely considered to be the best betting option when it comes to Baccarat – mostly due to the fact that it carries the lowest house edge out of all the available bets, averaging at around 1.06%. However, the casino always benefits from players placing this bet, as brick-and-mortar locations go on to earn a 5% commission every time the Banker (dealer) wins. This bet involves placing a wager on the Banker’s hand equalling the closest to a total of nine – therefore winning the game.

    Bond

There’s one thing for sure – James Bond loves a good session at the casino. Throughout the popular franchise, you’ll often find Bond facing off against his arch-nemesis over a tense table top game. In Dr. No (1962) we see Bond pulling up a chair at the Baccarat table, and makes it look easy as he faces off against his opponent, pulling natural 8s and 9s like it’s nothing!

    Chemin De Fer

Speaking of Bond, you’ll often find this alternative French name being used to reference Baccarat throughout the original books and films. It’s also worth noting that this is perhaps the game that inspired the creation of Baccarat as we know it today.

    House

This is just another word for the casino – and you will see it used a lot when talking about the “house edge”.

    House Edge

The house edge is essentially a percentage that describes the casino’s mathematical advantage on the game’s outcome. Basically, the higher the house edge, the lower the chances of the player bagging that win!

    Natural

The word “natural” simply refers to a winning hand. Getting a total of either eight or nine across two cards would be a natural outcome.

    Player Bet

This bet type is the second most-favourable option in this game. Whilst the Banker bet is ideal, there’s still a chance to win back some of your wager with a Player bet. By placing this bet, you are wagering that the Player hand will be the one that equals closest to nine.

    Tie Bet

As the name suggests, this bet involves predicting that both the banker’s and player’s hand will finish with identical values. Although this is a recognised bet within any game of Baccarat – the odds of it being a winner are very low. Because of this, the payout on offer is usually high and enticing, but you should bare in mind that this is because it’s unlikely to happen! Moreover, the house edge is highly unfavourable for the player.
