JFDR – the project of Icelandic singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jófríður Ákadóttir – has announced her signing to Houndstooth with a video for the new single ‘The Orchid’. The song was produced by Ákadóttir and Joshua Wilkinson and mixed by Shahzad Ismaily. Check out its Joseph Burgess-directed clip below.
“I call all my songs orchids,” Ákadóttir explained in a statement. “I am obsessed with the flower. It’s a very cunning flower, its beauty has led it to become the most popular plant or flower in the world. It symbolizes (among other things) fertility, and I was thinking a lot about rebirth and a new beginning. Fertility, creativity, beauty and mystery are all embodied by the orchid.”
Since releasing her last studio album, 2020’s New Dreams, JFDR has scored the Icelandic film Backyard Village and the mini-series Sisterhood.
