The Cure’s Robert Smith recently achieved his first entry into the Hot 100 thanks to his feature on Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘what’s wrong with me’. That duet is taken from you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, which the pop star put out on the 23rd year of her life. Flip those numbers around and you get the amount of albums the Rolling Stones have released thus far. On July 10, they will issue another one, Foreign Tongues, and Robert Smith guests on its latest single, ‘Divine Intervention’. Listen to it below.
On ‘Divine Intervention’, Smith’s presence is nowhere near as prominent as it is on ‘what’s wrong with me’ – he only played guitar on the track – but there is a fun story behind it. “There’s this bloke standing there with his back to me with this long gown on,” Mick Jagger said at a recent press event. “And when he turned around, he was covered in lipstick. And I said – I’d never met him before – ‘You’re Robert Smith of the Cure!’ He said, ‘Yeah!’ And I said, ‘Well, while you’re here then, you better go and do something.’”
Along with ‘Divine Intervention’, the Stones have shared the track ‘Jealous Lover’, alongside an Amazon exclusive music video starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Charles Melton.
