X-Men ’97 Season 3: Cast, Rumours & Release Date

After a bit of a wait, Marvel animated series X-Men ’97 is back with season 2. It serves as both a nostalgic continuation and a modern reimagining of the original animated series that aired in the ‘90s.

So far, the show has been a success. Showered with praise from critics and audiences alike, it stands out thanks to its emotional storytelling and willingness to tackle difficult subjects. Does that mean that more installments are on the way? Here’s what we know so far.

X-Men ’97 Season 3 Release Date

X-Men ’97 fans don’t have to worry: the animated series has already been renewed for season 3 and season 4. In even better news, you probably won’t have to wait another two years to get your next fix.

“Luckily, the production problems won’t occur again. There was a huge gap of time between [season] one and two. They’ve learned their lessons, so with [seasons] three and four, that won’t happen again… That was a one-off,” producer Larry Houston said in an interview.

Reading between the lines, there’s a good chance that X-Men ’97 season 3 will arrive sometime in summer 2027.

What Is X-Men ’97 About?

X-Men ‘97 continues the story of X-Men: The Animated Series. The show kicks off in the absence of Professor Charles Xavier, as the X-Men struggle to carry on his dream of peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants. They face escalating prejudice and powerful new enemies.

In season 2, the X-Men are divided across multiple eras. Part of the team navigates ancient Egypt during Apocalypse’s rise to power, while others must survive a distant future where his influence has reshaped civilisation. Meanwhile, those still in the present day struggle to bring their teammates home. Apocalypse looks to be the season’s primary villain, and you can expect additional mutant teams to enter the fold.

As for X-Men ’97 season 3, it’s a little too early to speculate. However, it’s safe to assume that it will continue the saga, delivering equal parts action and moving character arcs. Until then, season 2 episodes drop weekly on Disney+. The finale will arrive on August 12.
