What Is Death of the Pastor’s Wife About?
The three-part docuseries looks into the life and death of Mica Miller. She was a charismatic worship leader, but her seemingly idyllic exterior concealed a troubled marriage.
Mica met John-Paul “JP” Miller, a pastor, when she was 13. Years later, the two began an affair and eventually married. According to Mica’s loved ones, what began as a relationship wrapped in faith gradually became a marriage marked by coercive control.
The series follows Mica’s attempts to escape the relationship while also examining the power dynamics between the pastor and his wife. The final episode turns to Mica’s death in April 2024 and the many questions that came up after authorities ruled it a suicide.
“The broad thing that JP was doing was trying to strip away her freedom, her independence, her self-esteem. Not through one single event, but through years and years of continuous micro-events that trapped her in a state of dependence on him,” executive producer Alana Goldstein told Tudum.
