In this segment, we showcase the most notable albums out each week. Here are the albums out on October 9, 2026.
Cameron Winter, Live at Carnegie Hall
Cameron Winter has released his first live album, documenting his historic Carnegie Hall concert in December 2025. Featuring sparse renditions of songs from the Geese frontman’s solo debut, Heavy Metal, as well as three magnificent new songs, Live at Carnegie Hall is accompanied by a concert film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson that premiered at the 64th New York Film Festival. The performance is electrifying in its nimble intimacy, haunted yet occasionally humorous. We’ve never led with a live album in the history of this column, so this is a special one.
Troye Sivan’s fourth studio album, She’s the Best, has arrived. Hooky, occasionally shoegazey, and frequently downtempo, the Something to Give Each Other follow-up features the early singles ‘She’s the Best’ and ‘Party’. In a press release, Sivan described the record as a “painting” of his life “in all of its moods and colors,” adding, “There is this high-octane side to the album that feels really bombastic, and then there are the songs that feel like the interior of my mind.”
Jess Williamson has returned with her sixth solo LP, A Mile South of Heaven, via New West Records. To promote the record, the singer-songwriter adopted a stretch of highway two miles outside of Marfa, Texas, where she test-drove a lot of the material. “I think that there’s something really powerful about walking down an empty highway surrounded by big, open sky, mountains in the distance, cows, little critters on the road, and sometimes wildflowers,” she said in our inspirations interview. “You’re just enveloped by the big expanse of the sky, and no one’s around. Listening to this music that I’m making, knowing that the goal is that it’s going to be out in the world for all to experience, but having it first just for me, surrounded by so much beauty that’s so big, while I’m so small within it – there’s something about that that is clarifying for the choices that I made with the album.”
Remi Wolf is back with a new album called Mud. “ I literally felt like I was covered in shit,” the singer-songwriter said upon announcing the album. “And now, at the end of the album process, I feel so clean and clear.” She previewed the record with the singles ‘Twiggy’, ‘Bottle’, and ‘I Won’t Cry’. Early sessions for the LP began in Nashville and and then moved to a retreat in Big Bear with longtime collaborator Jared Solomon and a trust circle of close friends. Recording later took took place at Electric Lady Studios in New York and was completed in Joshua Tree.
With creole culture, Dawn Richard completes a trilogy of albums dedicated to her hometown of New Orleans. In her words, “Creole Culture is my way of saying that New Orleans culture doesn’t have to live in the past to be authentic. It can be progressive. It can be global. It can be pop culture. It can look like me.” Following 2019’s New Breed and 2021’s Second Line, the record Katalyst, the record was co-executive produced by Katalyst, the Inglewood-based collective founded by drummer and producer Greg Paul.
The Tallest Man on Earth, Just Beyond Endless Mountain
For his latest The Tallest Man on Earth album, Kristian Mattson drew inspiration from the Swedish folk music of his childhood. Speaking about Just Beyond Endless Mountain in press materials, Mattson said, “Somewhere along the way I’d developed this immature aversion to the whole cultural inheritance I grew up with. But now I live here again. I’ve read an incredible amount—not just about the music, but about how people actually lived in the old days. I think that’s part of why this record feels more like me than anything I’ve made before. This album really comes from somewhere.” The follow-up to 2023’s Henry St. was preceded by the singles ‘In The Silver Wire Up the Hill’ and ‘Colors’.
