Lindsay Reamer Announces New Album ‘Natural Science’, Unveils New Song

Lindsay Reamer has announced a new album, Natural Science, which will arrive on August 16 via Dear Life. Along with the announcement, the Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter has shared the song ‘Figs and Peaches’. Listen to it and find the album cover and tracklist below.

Discussing the new single, Reamer said in a statement:

I wrote Figs and Peaches after reading a trail sign about invasive plants somewhere along the Natchez Trace in Mississippi. I learned that Japanese Stiltgrass was first introduced to North America because it was used as packing material for shipments of fragile porcelain in the early 20th century. Stiltgrass is now found pretty much everywhere east of Texas.

I also reference a bit of folklore surrounding the B. L. England Generating Station, which is a recently demolished coal plant in South Jersey. It’s rumored that the warm water surrounding the plant attracted fish that might usually migrate south, which made it an excellent fishing spot. This all got me thinking about unintended consequences, which is a heavy theme within environmental history.

On an individual level, I think there’s something oddly comforting about knowing we can affect the things around us…for better or worse. In this song I’m focusing on the former. This framing makes me feel less hopeless. So, I think this song is about me trying to remember that in my own little life; to be less passive. To reach out, pick my own fruit, and own the consequences instead of waiting for it all to come to me.

Figs and Peaches is definitely the loudest song on the record. I feel really lucky that Eliza Niemi agreed to play cello on it. I’ve been enamored with her music since we played a show together when she was on tour in Philly. I think it’s best enjoyed in the car or on the train, on your way home after a long day.

Natural Science features contributions from Tyler Bussey on guitars and banjo, Artie Sadtler on bass, Lucas Knapp on synthesizers and percussion, Juliette Rando on drums, Will Henriksen on fiddle, Eliza Niemi on cello, Victoria Rose on guest vocals, Michael Cormier-O’Leary on drums, Peter Gill on guitar, and Frank Meadows on bass. It follows Reamer’s 2021 EP Lucky.

Sima Cunningham Announces New Album ‘High Roller’, Shares New Single ‘Nothing’

Sima Cunningham has announced a new album, High Roller, which is due August 30 via Ruination Records. To mark the announcement, Cunningham has shared the single ‘Nothing’. Check it out and find the album cover and tracklist below.

Speaking about the track, Cunningham said: “I only met my uncle a handful of times. To my family he was Johnny Boy. He was born with severe cerebral palsy and lived most of his life in a care facility away from his family. He was never able to use his voice but he loved music— the Beatles in particular. He had an illustration of them on the wall of his room. When he was passing away a few years ago I thought a lot about what might be going on inside of his head— did he have ideas about how he wanted to live his life? Was he singing or reciting poetry to himself? Or something else, that was beyond my perception? When we visited him, and when our grandmother would visit her eldest son, it was always about singing with him and connecting to him that way. When I play ’Nothing’ I feel like I’m jumping between observing him from the outside and leaping into his head— swimming through his mental pictures and sensations.”

Collaborators on the new LP include multi-instrumentalist Dorian Gehring, Cunningham’s brother Liam Kazar on bass, Macie Stewart, Spencer Tweedy, Elizabeth Moen, Andrew Sa, Charles Rumback, Jack Henry, and Twin Peaks’ Clay Frankel.

Back in May, Cunningham and her bandmate Macie Stewart released their first album under the name Finom, Not God.

Tim Heidecker has announced his next album, Slipping Away. The follow-up to 2022’s High School is set to arrive on October 18 via Bloodshot Records. The lead single ‘Well’s Running Dry’, out today, is about writer’s block. “As soon as I wrote that, I worried that itʼs not cool to talk about,” Heidecker said in a statement. “But a second later, I thought — well thatʼs challenging and exciting. Letʼs push past that.” Check it out below, and scroll down for the album cover and tracklist.

was a revitalizing experience to be out of my comfort zone a little bit,” Heidecker shared. “It was a learning opportunity.” He added, “People ask me a lot about the difference between making music and comedy. I finally got to a point where I was like, ‘Let’s stop thinking about these things as genres.’ It comes out in different formats but hopefully it all becomes one big thing that I’m making. Lia Kohl Announces New Album ‘Normal Sounds’, Unveils New Single

Chicago-based artist Lia Kohl has announced her third LP, Normal Sounds. The follow-up to last year’s The Ceiling Reposes is slated for release on August 30 via Moon Glyph. Listen to the new single ‘Car Alarm, Turn Signal’, which features flute and electronics from New York City sound artist Ka Baird, below.

“‘Car Alarm, Turn Signal’ is an attempt to capture the overlapping polyrhythms of the streets around my house: a late-night uber home, a car alarm outside the neighborhood market, a turn signal in a bird-filled parking lot,” Kohl shared in a statement. “I’ve woven these recordings together, mimicking them with cello and synths, expanding them into a lilting, expansive lullaby. The track opens with Ka Baird’s fierce, avian, flute playing; a shock of sunlight before we’re lulled to sleep. The video mirrors my process in making the album: taking something mundane — in this case, shadows on the sidewalk — and paying enough attention to them to see their beautiful, ephemeral geometry.”

Today, you can also hear a 11-track Kohl contributed to Just Cause Vol. 1, a new compilation with 100% of the proceeds going to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. Check out our Artist Spotlight interview with Lia Kohl.

Water From Your Eyes Announce New EP, Share Cover of Chumbawamba’s ‘The Good Ship Lifestyle’

Water From Your Eyes have announced a covers EP, MP3 Player 1, which lands this Friday, July 12 via Matador. It features covers of songs by Adele, Al Green, Third Eye Blind, and Chumbawamba, and today, they’ve offered their take on Chumbawamba’s 1997 track ‘The Good Ship Lifestyle’. Listen to it below.

Rachel Brown and Nate Amos laid down MP3 Player 1 around the same time they recorded their Matador debut, Everyone’s Crushed. It continues a tradition the duo established on their 2021 covers LP Somebody Else’s Songs. “These are covers that we made at the same time as we were finishing Everyone’s Crushed,” the band explained. “Nate chose ‘Good Ship Lifestyle’ and Rachel chose the other three. Chumbawamba is an obvious favorite of ours, but it is between Adele in the style of The Cure and Al Green as the most left field covers we could have chosen. We think it’s funny and good, but ultimately that will be left to the listeners to decide for themselves.”

Earlier this year, Water from Your Eyes covered Ween’s ‘If You Could Save Yourself (You’d Save Us All)’ for Sounds of Saving and 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s ‘Song That Found Me At The Right Time’ series.

Check out our Artist Spotlight interview with Water From Your Eyes.

MP3 Player 1 Tracklist:

1. The Good Ship Lifestyle (Chumbawamba)
2. Someone Like You (Adele)
3. Tired of Being Alone (Al Green)
4. Motorcycle Drive By (Third Eye Blind)
