Mdou Moctar have released a new track titled ‘Nakaneg Dich’, a studio outtake taken from the upcoming deluxe edition of their 2021 LP Afrique Victime. Out on February 24 via Matador, the expanded version of the album features nine previously unreleased songs. Listen to ‘Nakaneg Dich’ below.
“These are a mix of demos from Niger and some live tracks from touring around the world, when we were still working out the songs together as a band,” bassist and producer Mikey Coltun said of the collection in a press release. “These are fun and different early versions of the songs.”
Commenting on ‘Nakaneg Dich’, which was recorded during the album sessions in Los Angeles with Rob Schnapf, Coltun added: “This is Mdou’s very first time using a wah pedal. At some point, Mdou called Rob into the studio and asked him to control the wah with his foot while Mdou shredded a solo.”
Mdou Moctar are set to embark on a North American tour this month before heading out on an extensive UK/EU tour in April.
