Romy Confirms the xx Are Back in the Studio

Romy has confirmed that the xx are back in the studio working on their next album. The singer-songwriter gave an update on the band’s fourth LP in an interview with NME, saying that the sessions are feeling “quite wide open” at the moment. She explained, “I think Oliver [Sim] and Jamie [xx] and I have all tried new things and learned a lot from different projects and I think that’s quite healthy to be like, ‘What have you learned? What should we do now?’”

Regarding the sound of the new music, Romy added, “It’s still pretty early. I think you’ll still be able to tell it’s us. But I think we’re excited to move it on and keep it feeling fresh.”

The xx’s last album album was 2017’s I See You. Romy released her debut solo album, MID AIR, in 2023, while Oliver Sim’s own solo debut, Hideous Bastard, came out the previous year. Jamie xx has shared a handful of singles since releasing In Colour in 2015.
