Watch Phoenix, Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and More Perform at Paris 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony

The Paris 2024 Olympics closing ceremony took place yesterday (August 11) in Paris, with performances by French bands Air, Phoenix, and Kavinsky. Along with playing hits like ‘Lisztomania’ and ‘1901’, Phoenix brought on a number of guests, including Air to perform ‘Playground Love’, Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig for their collaborative single ‘Tonight’, Kavinsky and Belgian pop star Angèle for ‘Nightcall (from the Drive soundtrack), and Cambodian rapper VannDa for ‘If I Ever Feel Better’/’Funky Squaredance’. Check out videos of the performances below.

“We are infinitely happy to have had the chance to celebrate with all the athletes and the entire world at the Closing of the Olympic Games in our beloved city of Paris,” Phoenix said in a press statement. “It was a wonderful moment to have been invited to take the stage with our friends from France and around the world, honoring the French spirit and remaining true to our motto: Liberté, Égalité, Phoenix! We are thrilled to both pass the baton to the Paralympics athletes and to Los Angeles for the forthcoming 2028 games.”

Later in the ceremony, Paris handed off the Olympic flag to the next host city, Los Angeles. To mark the occasion, H.E.R. performed the US National Anthem at the Stade de France and Tom Cruise staged various stunts that ended with him turning the double Os of the Hollywood sign into the Olympic rings.

Local artists Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, H.E.R., and the Red Hot Chili Peppers then performed at the LA28 Handover Celebration. Taking the stage at Rosie’s Dog Beach in Long Beach in a series of pre-taped performances, Red Hot Chili Peppers played ‘Can’t Stop’, Eilish and her brother Finneas delivered a full-band rendition of ‘BIRDS OF A FEATHER’, and Snoop Dogg performed ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ and, with Dr. Dre, ‘The Next Episode’.

Other performances at the ceremony included Yseult coving ‘My Way’ and Benjamin Bernheim singing ‘Hymne à Apollon’ while Alain Roche played a vertically hanging piano.
