Georgia Announces New Album ‘Euphoric’, Shares Video for New Single

Georgia has announced her next album: Euphoric is due for release on July 28. The follow-up to 2020’s Seeking Thrills was co-produced by Rostam, marking the first time Georgia worked with another producer on her own music. Today’s announcement comes with the release of the new single ‘It’s Euphoric’, the first song Rostam and Georgia wrote together, alongside an accompanying video. “I wanted an adventure!” Georgia remarked of the new record in a statement. “Being a self-produced musician, it’s easy to get stuck on one thing or in one place.” She also said the album was about surrendering “to my issues, to my past, to my flaws and to the healing process.”

Scowl Release Video for New Song ‘Psychic Dance Routine’

Scowl have dropped ‘Psychic Dance Routine’, the title track from their upcoming EP. Following the previously shared singles ‘Opening Night’ and ‘Shot Down’, the song arrives with a music video directed by guitarist Malachi Greene and choreographed by Bridget Smith. Check it out below.

Speaking about ‘Psychic Dance Routine’, vocalist Kat Moss  explained in a statement:

My perspective of being consumed as the version of myself that is “performing” has shifted dramatically, while simultaneously grappling the experience of being a feminine artist in a world that doesn’t always take you seriously. 

I made an effort to change perspectives back and forth lyrically because I felt that would have the most impact with the message I was trying convey. ‘She’ll never be your animal, she’s got her own personal hell.’ In its simplest form I’m explaining that nobody can corner me into their perception of who I am and that I’ve got my own shit to deal with. By using ‘She’ I’m making it clear that I’m also speaking about a feminine experience. ‘Can’t handle your control, think of the love I’d give.’ is me begging the listener to relinquish the grip they have on me and questioning if they’ll allow me to be the earnest and vulnerable person I truly am.

The Psychic Dance Routine EP comes out April 7 on Flatspot Records.

Jonathan Wilson Shares Video for New Song ‘Marzipan’

Producer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Jonathan Wilson has shared a new single, ‘Marzipan’. It comes paired with a music video created entirely using AI technology. Check it out below.

“With my new single ‘Marzipan’ I wanted to break out of any and all comfort zones I may have lapsed into as a writer, narrator, producer, or player,” Wilson explained in a press release. “I discovered a little-known song called ‘Warm Rumours’ from the early 70’s that was playful, risky, experimental, and took no prisoners. I wrote the string and horn arrangements for ‘Marzipan’ myself, and it was a pleasure to have these wonderful players put my melodies on this recording, and into the gentle listener’s ears. I wanted a Walker Brothers’ ‘The Electrician’ string moment at some point in my life, that degree of beauty, and I think this gets me close.”

He added: “The song chronicles some of my life autobiographically when I lived in NYC in the early 2000’s in my 20s. The feeling of Greenpoint, Brooklyn at that moment. Countering that with a deep dive into Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, and my early fascination with the Harry Smith Anthology during those years. I was obsessed. And of course, jazz, which changed my life forever.”

Jonathan Wilson’s last album was 2020’s Dixie Blur.

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit Share New Single ‘Middle of the Morning’

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit have unveiled ‘Middle of the Morning’, the second offering from their forthcoming album Weathervanes. It follows ‘Death Wish’, which we named one of our songs of the week. “It was about trying to keep my mind from unraveling over the couple of years there,” Isbell said in a statement.  Check out a lyric video for the track below.

Weathervanes is set for release on June 9 via Southeastern Records/Thirty Tigers. Isbell is the subject of a new HBO documentary that’s out next week called Running With Our Eyes Closed, which chronicles the making of his 2020 album Reunions.

Portrayal of Guilt Announce New Album ‘Devil Music’, Share Short Film

Portrayal of Guilt have announced a new album called Devil Music, which will be out April 20 digitally and April 21 physically via Run for Cover. The follow-up to 2021’s CHRISTF**KER consists of five new songs on side A and orchestral reworkings of those tracks on side B. Today, the band has shared a short film directed by Emmanuella Zachariou that features the entirety of side B. Check it out below.

Discussing the film in a statement, Zachariou said:

When I first heard the B-Side of Devil Music, I was extremely impressed by the cinematic nature of the music. As a filmmaker and artist who started working in this industry through being an avid lover of music, especially heavier and darker sounds, it has always been a deep personal goal of mine to create more projects that not only highlight the extremely intricate nature of such compositions, but to really try to bring in a true cinematic atmosphere to help visualize them. The string elements in the tracks really helped inspire the medieval blueprint in my mind’s eye, and going off of that I wanted to implement slight nods to 90s black metal promo photos, and some of my favorite directors and films. Everything in this was a deliberate, carefully curated nod to some of my favorite films, books, artists and albums. Some examples include Marketa Lazarová (1967), The Wicker Man (1973), The Devils (1971), To the Devil a Daughter (1976), The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928), Wim Wenders, Jean Rollin, Jesús Franco, Mortiis, down to the choice of title card text (inspired by Medieval Marginalia and even Abigor’s 1995 albums, Nachthymnen and Orkblut – The Retaliation).
