“When people who you love have been taken from you, there’s always a song that holds their memory in your mind,” Marshall said of ‘I’ll Be Seeing You’ in a statement. “It’s a conversation with those on the other side, and it’s really important for me to reach out to people that way.”

Burial Announces New ‘ANTIDAWN’ EP

Burial has announced a new EP called ANTIDAWN. The 5-track project will be released digitally on January 6 via Hyperdub, with a CD and vinyl release to follow on January 28. Check out the EP’s artwork and tracklist below.

“The record explores an interzone between dislocated, patchwork songwriting and eerie, open-world, game space ambience,” according to a press release, which continues:

In the resulting no man’s land, lyrics take precedence over song, lonely phrases colour the haze, a stark and fragmented structure makes time slow down.

Antidawn seems to tell a story of a wintertime city, and something beckoning you to follow it into the night. The result is both comforting and disturbing, producing a quiet and uncanny glow against the cold. Sometimes, as it enters ‘a bad place,’ it takes your breath away. And time just stops.

ANTIDAWN will follow Burial’s 2021 track ‘Dolphinz’ as well as Shock Power of Love, his split EP with London-based producer Blackdown.

Animal Collective Share Video for New Single ‘Walker’

Animal Collective have shared a new song called ‘Walker’, taken from their forthcoming album Time Skiffs. The track arrives with an accompanying video directed by Avey Tare and his sister Abby Portner. Watch and listen below.

In an interview with Zane Lowe, Panda Bear  (Noah Lennox) explained that ‘Walker’ is a tribute to the late Scott Walker, who passed away around the time he began writing the song. “Scott’s music has meant a lot to me and he’ll always be a big inspiration,” Panda Bear said. “But there’s also a kind of exhaustion and resignation to the singer of ‘Walker’ that belies a darker layer.”

Time Skiffs is set for release on February 4 via Domino. ‘Walker’ is the second single off the LP, following ‘Prester John’.

13 Best Quotes from Luca Guadagnino’s I Am Love

0

I Am Love is an Italian romantic drama set in Milan around the year 2000. The film follows the wealthy Recchi family, who are textile manufacturers. Tilda Swinton’s Emma Recchi married into the family but is originally from Russia. She misses home greatly and often makes a Russian soup, ukha, for her son Edoardo. This soup recurs throughout the film as a symbol and trajectory of Emma’s relationship with her son and his friend Antonio, a chef who beats Edoardo in a race and subsequently gets involved with the Recchis.

The film begins with a family dinner hosted by Emma and her husband Tancredi, where Edoardo Senior plans to retire from the business and hand it over to his successor. The family is surprised when he names both Tancredi and Edoardo Junior. Antonio shows up with a cake as a consolation prize for Edoardo for the race, and this is where he meets Emma. Over the course of the film, Emma and Antonio’s relationship flourishes in unexpected ways. Meanwhile, Emma is trying to be a good mother to Edoardo and her daughter Elisabetta, who has been concealing her true identity from her family, whose wealth she seems to quietly tolerate – yet also reap the benefits of.

The film’s soundtrack, using pre-existing compositions by John Adams, is as much a part of the story as the rich imagery and dialogue. Conversations are sparse in this movie, and thus, all the more impactful. Here is a selection of memorable quotes from I Am Love.

  1. Elisabetta Recchi: Being part of a couple is as nice as being alone. We must decide whether we’re brave. They’re the lyrics of a song a friend played for me.”
  2. Gregorio Sanfelice: “No one beats a Recchi.”
  3. Edoardo Recchi Senior: “My dear friends, I don’t want to die. And I won’t, as long as the business carries on in the same spirit with which I created it. Our family’s fortune is built on the factory. Every brick, every man, every piece of material is living proof of what we have been. We have engraved our name in our country’s history when, both during the war and after it, we were able to tend to its needs through the uninterrupted activity of our factory. The company was born Recchi, and Recchi it will remain forever.”
  4. Edoardo Recchi Senior: “It will take two men to replace me.”
  5. Elisabetta Recchi: “Edo, I can only talk to you about this. It’s only you who loves me as I am. I’ve been with a girl … I don’t know if I’ll see her again, but it was very beautiful. But it isn’t her I’m in love with. I love Angharad. I don’t know what she thinks of me, or if she even likes girls, but so what? Today I managed to make her laugh.”
  6. Edoardo Recchi Junior: “I’m having a party at my place, for Eva’s birthday. I want to ask her to marry me … Well? No reaction?”
    Antonio Biscaglia: “Congratulations.”
Edoardo Recchi Junior: “Show some enthusiasm! I’m getting married!”
  7. Emma Recchi: “When I came to Milan, I stopped being Russian. There was too much of everything, in the streets, in the shops. I had to learn to be Italian.”
  8. Emma Recchi: “If I got homesick, I cooked. One day I made a soup my grandmother had taught me. Ukha. Edoardo, who was six then, liked it so much that he just kept on asking me to make it. Edo loves the Russia that I carry around inside myself.”
  9. Edoardo Recchi Junior: “No, you mustn’t thank me. I did it out of selfishness. I feel better knowing you’re happy.”
Elisabetta Recchi: HappyHappy is a word you don’t say because it makes you sad.”
  10. Shai Kubelkian: “No, [I don’t speak Russian], but I do read Russian. Gogol, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy. No one hated women more, though.”
  11. Shai Kubelkian: “… the world is growing and it has to be changed. All one has to do is alter one’s way of viewing it. Take war, for example – it can lead to development. If the wealth it produces here is then directed to the lands it destroys here, capital is democracy.”
  12. Emma Recchi: “You don’t know me anymore.”
  13. Tancredi Recchi: “You don’t exist.”

4 Useful Tips That Every Musician Needs To Hear

Music is not just a piece of art, it is also a form of expression. Being a musician itself is an experience that everyone should try to have at least once in their lives. The music industry has expanded so much over the past few years with all the new trends and sites out there getting more attention from different parts of the world. But regardless of what kind of musician you are, or want to be, there are a few basic things you need to remember in order to make your experience as smooth and fruitful as possible.

Practice Makes Perfect

The old saying is true, practise does make perfect. It’s not enough to just play your instrument for a couple of hours a day and call it a day. In order to get better at your instrument, you need to be practising consistently. This means setting aside time every day (or at least a few times a week) to work on your skills.

If you are a drummer, try playing to a metronome. If you are a vocalist, track your voice for 30 min every day. If you are a pianist, find piano sheet music to buy and learn some new scales and chords. Whatever instrument you play, just remember that in order to get better, you need to practice regularly!

To illustrate the benefits of constant practice, here’s a story about the world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. When he was 5 years old, his parents took him to a music school where the first thing the teacher said to him was ” practice makes perfect.” At that young age, Yo-Yo Ma didn’t really understand what that meant. But years later, after winning multiple awards for his skills and accolades from critics, he realized the truth of that statement.

Know Your Sound

Every instrument has its own unique sound. If you’re a vocalist, you want to find your own unique voice. If you’re a guitarist, you want to find your own unique style. The sooner you can find your sound, the sooner you can start developing your musical identity.

So it’s important to experiment with different styles and sounds until you find something that feels like “you.” Don’t be afraid to try new things and don’t be afraid to sound different. In the music industry, there’s always room for unique voices and styles.

Practice With Other Musicians

One of the best ways to improve your skills as a musician is to practice with other musicians. Not only will you be able to learn new things, but you’ll also get to build relationships and networks with other musicians.

There are plenty of ways to find other musicians to practice with. You can join a band, go to a music school, or attend jam sessions. The important thing is to find musicians that share the same level of skill and ambition. If you’re a beginner, don’t practice with advanced musicians. And if you’re an advanced musician, don’t practise with beginners. Find people that are at the same level as you so that you can all benefit from each other’s skills.

Here are tips for making friends:

Smile and Introduce Yourself

When you meet other musicians, the best way to make friends is to smile and introduce yourself. Most people are friendly and will be more than happy to chat with you. Just make sure that you’re respectful and don’t interrupt them when they’re playing.

Be Patient

Building relationships with other musicians take time. Don’t expect to become best friends with them overnight. Just be patient and keep hanging out with them. Eventually, you’ll get to know each other better and you’ll start working together more effectively.

Be Flexible

Musicians are often very creative people. They’re used to being flexible and adapting to new situations. So when you’re practising with other musicians, be prepared to change things up last minute. Don’t get frustrated if someone suggests a different song or style to play. Just go with the flow and be flexible.

Be Positive

Musicians are always in need of positive reinforcement. When you’re practising with other musicians, make sure to give them positive feedback. This will help encourage them to practice more and it will make them want to practise with you again.

Take Care of Your Instrument

If you want to be a successful musician, you’ve got to take care of your instrument. Whether it’s drums, guitar, bass, synthesizer or piano, if your instrument is in bad condition, you won’t sound good when playing.

For example: Are the buttons worn out? Are the keys broken? Is there rust on any of the metal parts? Here are tips for caring for different instruments:

Piano

If you have a piano at home, make sure to get it tuned every 6 months. If you don’t know how to tune a piano yourself, take it to your local piano tuner and ask them for advice. Some of the best advice for beginner piano players comes from them. Also, clean your piano with a damp cloth every few weeks to get rid of any dust or dirt that’s accumulated on its surface.

Guitar

If you own an acoustic guitar, make sure to change your strings regularly. New strings will keep your guitar sounding bright and rich. If you don’t know how to change your guitar strings yourself, take it to a local guitar shop and ask them for advice.

If you own an electric guitar, make sure to keep the electronics clean. Use a soft cloth to wipe off any dust or dirt that’s accumulated on the pickups, pots, and switches. Also, make sure to keep the strings well-maintained so that they don’t rust.

Drums

For drums, practise regular maintenance. If you don’t know how to do this yourself, take it to your local drum shop and ask them for advice. For example, every few weeks or so, apply some oil to the bearing edges of your cymbals. This will keep them sounding rich and balanced. Also, make sure to clean your drums with a damp cloth every few weeks to get rid of any dust or dirt that’s accumulated on the surface.

Vocals

If you’re a vocalist, make sure to drink plenty of water. This will help keep your voice well-hydrated and it will prevent you from developing throat problems. Also, gargle with salt water briefly every few days. This will kill any bacteria in your throat and it’ll help prevent you from developing a sore throat.

Being a musician is a lot of fun, but it also takes a lot of hard work. If you want to be successful, you need to practise regularly and you need to take care of your instrument. Also, make friends with other musicians and know your sound. Follow these tips and you’ll be on your way to becoming a successful musician!

Cheekface Release New Single ‘Featured Singer’

Cheekface have shared a new single called ‘Featured Singer’, out today via New Professor Records. Check it out below.

Speaking about the new song, the band’s Greg Katz explained in a statement:

One day, mid-pandemic, I was thinking about how hard it is for a band to reach people, especially in the middle of the pandemic, and my daydreaming led me to thinking about how much easier it would be if I just did an uncredited featured vocal on an EDM song by a famous DJ, and that song became super famous without me having to do anything other than sing into a microphone. Like, I could be that faceless voice! I wouldn’t even have to do anything! I started laughing at myself for this stupid wish, and writing a little poem about it. A few days later, Mandy sent me this nasty bass-line over email and I just started reciting the poem over it. And so there was this song, about warehouse raves and frat parties, written via email, made at a time when there were no warehouse raves or frat parties.

Cheekface released their sophomore LP, Emphatically No.in January 2021. Earlier this year, they shared the track ‘We Need a Bigger Dumpster’.
