HAIM Share New Guns N’ Roses-Inspired Song ‘Feel the Thunder’

0

HAIM have released a new song called ‘Feel the Thunder’ from the soundtrack to the new animated film The Croods: A New Age. The track was co-written and produced by Ariel Rechtshaid and was inspired by Guns N’ Roses. Listen to it below.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Danielle Haim said that Rechtshaid is “the biggest Guns N’ Roses fan.” She continued, “He’s obsessed with them – he went and saw them on their most recent tour a bunch of times. And so I figured that that’s what we were looking for. We were like, ‘Let’s get Ariel.’ But I’d never tried to make music like that before, so it was fully like a crazy experiment.”

Talking about the opportunity to record rock music specifically for a children’s movie, she added: “We grew up listening to rock music, pop, a healthy smattering of a ton of different kinds of music. I don’t know how often you really hear rock music in a kid’s film anymore, or rock music in general anymore.”

HAIM released their third studio album, Women in Music Pt. III, back in June. Last month, they enlisted Robert Pattison for a performance of ‘3 AM’ on Late Night with Seth Meyers and shared the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed video for ‘Man from the Magazine’.

4 Incredible Ads Used To Market Sony Consoles And Games

If you’re a gamer, you’ll know that there have been some incredible examples of advertisements from all three big console developers. Here are some of the greatest ads that Sony has released on the market to promote their products.

You Are Not Ready

We would be remiss for missing out the first ad ever released by the company for the first Playstation. The ad was simple, showcasing the console as well as several of the games for it. They were right. We weren’t ready and Sony have only continued to impress with their ad efforts.

Yes You Can Share

Perhaps one of the most memorable things about this ad was how simple it was. Yet it is still often seen as the reason why Sony won the E3 conference that year and even potentially the console war. The ad was simply the two heads of Sony handing each other a game with the video titled, how to share a game on the PS4. While this might seem rather basic it was a huge deal. Minutes ago, Microsoft had already announced that sharing a game with friends on their new console would come with massive restrictions. This went down like a bag of bricks with gamers so Sony quickly took advantage of the opportunity to win consumer approval.

Ellie Comes To Life

The Last Of Us Part 2 was advertised with a live-action trailer for the game. This isn’t a new concept, it’s been used a lot of times to market a lot of different games. However, this trailer was particularly memorable because of the actress that they chose for Ellie. She was the perfect choice for the character. These popular commercials all used characters to market the product and there’s one key reason for this. They work. People connect with different individuals, even if they know them to be completely fictitious.

No Limits

Finally, it’s perhaps worth exploring one of the latest gaming ads that have certainly captured the attention of gamers. Sony introduced its PS5 to the market with the ‘No Limits’ campaign. This saw a fisherman accidentally stumble into new worlds on his craft, emphasising the fact that the possibilities in gaming with the PS5 were absolutely limitless. Part of what makes this ad so memorable is the production value. Watching this, you would be forgiven for thinking that it was actually advertising a full-length science-fiction movie, complete with an actor that certainly gets the message across of being truly astounded by the possibilities.

Interestingly, Microsoft put a similar ad out into the world, instead, based around the idea of living out your dreams and adventures through the new console. While it’s just as dazzling it’s not quite as memorable and a lot of the games being advertised don’t have a launch date just yet.

As you can see, there are countless exciting ads that are used to appeal to gamers and sell new consoles as well as new games. We frankly can’t wait to see what developers and advertisers come up with next.

Instant Games That You Can Play Online with Money

Online games have shown tremendous growth in the last few years. The online gaming platform has benefited from the cheap internet connection and the latest smartphone features. PUBG, Fortnite, World of Warcraft, and numerous games have a large community of players on mobile online gaming. According to Statista, the number of online gamers will cross 1000 million in the next two years. The technology revolution has also influenced the gambling industry and that is why online casino games have become popular in the last decade. The concept of online casino was introduced in the middle of the 1990s, it has gained momentum in the last few years.

Just like other popular online video games, many gambling games are available for the players to access instantly. With mobile compatible casino websites and casino apps, numerous gambling games can be accessed quickly. Not only these instant games are easy to access, but they also offer an enriched gambling experience without requiring much time for the players. Whether you are in a subway or waiting at a restaurant, you can quickly play such casino games. Here are some of the instant gambling games that you can play online with real money and for free such as Solitaire.

Poker: The Fascination of Gambling

When you hear the word poker you feel like you are in the cowboy films, because in almost every cowboy movie, the heroes play the well-known card game. Most of the online casinos offer these card games and within a few rounds, you can complete this game instantly. The game, in which each participant receives five cards, which have a different value depending on the combination, has even achieved World Cup status and there are several international tournaments. With casino apps, you can easily access poker games at reputable online casinos.

Slots: The Game for All

Slots machines are popular for many decades. But with online casinos, they have gained even more players around the world. You just need to choose a reliable gambling site and instantly play the game by getting free spins. There are number of movies and TV shows themed casinos along with other interesting ones. The game only takes a few minutes and it is really addictive. The rules are quite simple here. Players just have to pull the button and the number starts to spin on the reels and the RNG (Random Number Generator) will show the results when it stops. There are many chances of winning a jackpot at this game.

Scratch Cards: The game with Excitement and Twist

We don’t have to mention that scratch cards are among the instant games that can be played with real money. Inspires from its classic version, online scratch cards are even more interesting. You may not find many online casinos providing this gambling. However, UK scratch cards online can be the best choice for the players to find some exciting game variants. The rules are simple. You just need to buy a ticket for the amount you want to bet, and then you will have to make a guess about which grids of boxes have hidden treasure (this may change according to the theme of the game). This only takes a few minutes and you can play even when you are waiting for your waiter to bring the order.

Roulette: The Old Classic

As soon as the croupier has uttered ‘Rien ne va plus,’ nothing works. By this time, all tokens should have been placed on the fields of the roulette table and the bets placed. This popular game of chance is as old as the casinos themselves, and even beginners get their money’s worth. A few rounds of this game can be played quickly at any online casino offering online roulette. The rules are very simple, even if many develop their own strategies over time. The wheel and the ball set the tone and when the ball slowly rolls into a compartment, the level of adrenaline rises, because it determines who wins or loses. You can bet on a number or certain groupings of numbers, on red or black as well as on even or odd numbers.

Blackjack: Card Game with Tradition

Blackjack is also one of the lucky knights’ favorites. This gambling game has earned its popularity from the cinemas due to intense game sequences. But you can have a similar intense gaming experience on your smartphone easily. This game of chance aims to get as close as possible to a value of 21 with your card combination or even to reach it completely. If you get over this number you have lost. The highest winning hand is the combination of an ace and a 10.

Baccarat: Exciting Gaming Experience

Baccarat is played with eight decks of cards. Here bets can be placed against players or the house. A draw is also possible. With each new card sled, one card is turned over. Two cards are always issued. One for the house and one for the player. The goal is to get the closest to the card value with only three cards. This may take a few more minutes than the instant games mentioned below, but it won’t take hours.

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Outer Banks

0

Outer Banks premiered on Netflix in April 2020, during one of the harshest periods of the COVID-19 pandemic. The world had just begun to settle into lockdown mode. For those of us lucky enough to be living in the safety of our homes, the true power of streaming services was revealed. While cinemas shut down and release schedules were pushed back, streaming platforms like Netflix continued uploading new content for their customers.

Outer Banks is the story of four lower-class friends living on an island owned by wealthy people. The main character is the tenacious John B, who has recently been orphaned. Child Services are onto him, but he’s too busy trying to get to the lost treasure his father was trying to find before he died. With the help of his three “Pogue” friends – JJ, Kiara, and Pope – they embark on a quest for their own wealth, following the clues Big John left for his son. But they’re not the only ones searching for the gold; John B’s former boss and new carer, Ward Cameron, has been after it for much longer than the Pogues have.

The show exploded into global popularity, claiming the number one spot on Netflix’s Top 10 streamed programs upon its release. A second season is already in production, which its large and dedicated fanbase is no doubt eagerly looking forward to. Here are five things you may not know about Outer Banks.

About The Creators

Josh and Jonas Pate are twin brothers who have previously collaborated on The Grave, Deceiver, Good vs Evil, Surface, and The Take, among other projects. Jonas Pate’s daughter, Lilah Pate, appears in a minor role throughout Outer Banks. In the first episode, she delivers the memorable line, “Dead body,” when she shows off a photo of Scooter’s corpse she took on her mobile phone.

Chase Stokes’s Audition Process

Chase Stokes was the embodiment of a struggling Los Angeles actor before booking the leading role of John B in Outer Banks. In fact, he had to ask his mom for money so that he could travel to the audition. Initially, he decided not to audition because the concept sounded too similar to The Goonies, but later he changed his mind due to financial reasons.

His first audition was for the role of Topper, though he describes the audition as a bomb. At the last minute, he decided to audition for John B, which ended up being a lengthy process. In fact, Rudy Pankow was slated to play John B, but later elected to play JJ.

Upon Chase’s arrival to the production office, he asked someone he saw in the hallway to walk on his back after getting off a long flight. He didn’t know it then, but the person he met was Madelyn Cline, who had already booked the role of Sarah Cameron. Coincidentally, both Stokes and Cline (almost) crossed paths in Stranger Things, each appearing in minor roles (Stokes in season 1, and Cline in season 2).

Improv

The actors were given a considerable amount of free reign when it came to lines. This works in the story’s favor; as a result, the dialogue feels authentic and realistic for these sixteen-year-old characters. Many of the scenes don’t sound scripted, and it may be because of the amount of improvisation.

One notable instance of improv is the scene in which JJ shows off his hot tub. Instead of spending the money that he stole from drug dealer Barry on his restitution, he blows it on a hot tub. Kiara and Pope are understandably infuriated, but when JJ breaks down crying, they soften. He explains that he just wanted to get one nice thing for his friends, his “family”. The scene is without a doubt the most emotional moment of the entire first season.

Kissing Scene

John B and Sarah Cameron share obvious chemistry from the beginning of the series, even when they’re supposedly enemies. Between the long stares and flirtatious banter, it’s clear that they’re going to be an item before the end of the season.

In the fourth episode, the two end up going on a trip to learn more about the origin of the gold and where it may be hidden. John B hadn’t planned on Sarah’s presence, but the two bond quickly and find an easy rapport. At the end of the episode, they return to the island, wondering if they’ll still be friends, or go back to being a Pogue and a Kook. It starts to rain, and they kiss. The romantic movie moment was a total fluke; the rain wasn’t scripted or planned and happened naturally.

Scuba Diving Scene

Early in the season, the Pogues find Scooter’s sunken boat, not knowing whose it is. They go out to the wreck hoping to find a clue to whose boat it is, and possibly something valuable that they can claim for themselves. John B goes down with no experience scuba diving, much to the concern of his friends. The underwater scenes were shot in a police training facility.

While in the marshes, the police arrive and warn Kiara, Pope, and JJ that they shouldn’t be out there during a police investigation. John B is supposedly underwater, waiting to pressurize, but time is running out. In fact, Chase Stokes is bobbing just below the surface of the water the entire time, hiding right under the boat in view of his castmates, who must pretend they don’t know where he is.

Album Review: Kylie Minogue, ‘DISCO’

Kylie Minogue had already gone through multiple transformations before the release of her 2018 album Golden, but hearing the pop stalwart lean into her country influences was still a surprise to many. An admirable if half-hearted experiment, the album arrived at a time when country was having sort of a resurgence in popular culture – it was that year that Justin Timberlake unleashed his own foray into the genre, Man of the Woods, to mixed reception. (Though by no means as bad as that album, Golden was still only half as good as a certain Grammy-winning country-pop album that shares half its name and was released just weeks earlier.) The unambiguously titled DISCO sees the singer retreating back into her comfort zone, eschewing the personal songwriting of her previous LP to deliver her most consistently enjoyable crop of songs in years.

With disco-inspired albums like Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia finding widespread success in the mainstream, DISCO could be seen as less of an exercise in nostalgia than another attempt to cash into current trends in pop music, only this time that trend happens to be much closer to Kylie’s natural wheelhouse. But unlike Golden, her new album feels less like a cultural product than a sincere effort to embrace the pure escapism inherent in the genre’s stylings at a time where hitting the dancefloor still seems like a distant reality. Like Lady Gaga’s Chromatica, it’s the kind of record whose artistic quality is much less important than its function in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic – and as it glides through shimmering synths and soppy disco strings, DISCO certainly does enough to turn your kitchen into a disco for just short of an hour.

As much as the record is a throwback to the 1970s and 1980s, Minogue has also refuted the idea that it’s an “album of throwaway subject matter,” adding that, “even if it feels like [singing] about the dance floor, it still has its place.” The best songs on DISCO prove that simply by carrying an irresistible charm – current single ‘Magic’ is hands down one of the most infectious tunes in the singer’s catalogue, opening the record with the kind of wild-eyed optimism that urges you to believe in a premise (“Dancing together”) that currently feels more like a dream. “The time is disappearin’/ This moment’s never leavin’,” she sings, and the rest of the album sets out to make that a reality by repeating that familiar formula, though it’s not always as successful: follow-up ‘Miss a Thing’, for instance, attempts to cast that same spell, but the result is less entrancing. Thankfully, the album still has plenty more highlights to offer: ‘Real Groove’ is smooth and slinky, while ‘Monday Blues’ boasts one of the album’s most kinetic grooves as it kicks up the BPM. Strangely enough, it’s often the tracks that take the concept of disco revivalism a little too far that end up sticking the landing: take ‘Where Does the DJ Go?’, with its cheesy retro vibes, or ‘Say Something’, with its soaring, schmaltzy chorus: “Love is love, it never ends/ Can we all be as one again?”

That sort of youthful naivety inevitably stands out in an album billed as “disco for grown-ups”, but it’s not long before the approach starts to wear thin. Lack of depth is to be expected on a record like this, but if Jessie Ware’s excellent new album What’s Your Pleasure? proved anything, it’s that you can remain strapped to a bygone era without veering into pastiche (just compare ‘Spotlight’, the final track on the deluxe edition of DISCO, with the single of the same name that opens Ware’s album). While it’s refreshing to hear a Kylie Minogue album that’s fairly consistent – in sound if not always in quality – it’s also a shame that we don’t get to see her expand her songwriting skills as she did on Golden; that personal angle probably wouldn’t work here, but the album’s populist bent nevertheless has more impact when it’s tied to some semblance of narrative or a stronger emotional core. On the stirring mid-tempo closer ‘Celebrate You’, Minogue focuses on a single character but addresses anyone who feels hopeless or insignificant; it’s the one moment on the album that feels like it celebrates humanity more than it does a genre, that finds hope not in manufactured glossiness but in people. And whether you end up believing in it or not, that’s where the real magic lies.
